Kala Chaupal June 2020

The document discusses sustainable building design and hygienic architecture. It describes Dr. Deb's design for composting toilets with separate outlets for excreta, wash water, and urine. The treatment methods turn the excreta and wash water into compost and use the urine as fertilizer. It highlights several of the author's building projects in India that use local and sustainable materials like load-bearing brick, mud, bamboo, and thatch. It emphasizes appreciating skilled artisans and their traditional techniques. It also discusses how buildings should be designed with their eventual end in mind.
