ADLER Notes

Adler's Individual Psychology theory proposes that people strive for success and superiority. Each person's perception of reality is unique. People strive to overcome feelings of inferiority from birth defects through fictional goals of success. A person's behavior and personality form a unified, self-consistent whole. Social interest in cooperation and community is important for healthy development. An individual's style of life results from heredity, environment, and how they approach problems, love, and work. Abnormal development involves underdeveloped social interest and neurotic goals that are too high, focused on the self over others.
