Report On Best Practices in Reading: Department of Education

This report summarizes the reading program implemented at Elon Elementary School from 2019 to present. Key gains include students becoming more adept in the reading environment and boosting their self-confidence and competitiveness. Significant lessons learned are that reading associated with colorful pictures highly motivates students, especially grades 1-3. While the program is less active currently due to the pandemic, the school sent reading materials to parents and lessened production of pictures. Plans for sustaining the program include training parents and establishing a mini-park for a learning center, or compiling reading materials into big books to distribute if in-person learning remains restricted. Support needed is approval and budget for producing such reading materials.
