Project Management Institute (P. M. I.) (n.d.). Applying the work breakdown structure to the project
management lifecycle.
Guiding Question:
1. What is the importance of a work breakdown structure?
Answer: The WBS is a foundational building block to initiating, planning, executing, and
monitoring and controlling processes that are used to manage projects. As project
management is a difficult task if not preplanned. The proper planning help project to follow a
predesigned path to success. The Proper constructed WBS offers best project outcomes. A
poorly constructed WBS can result in adverse project outcomes including ongoing, repeated
project re-plans and extensions, unclear work assignments, scope creep or unmanageable,
frequently changing scope, budget overrun, missed deadlines, and unusable new products or
delivered features.

NOTE: I am unable to locate this video.
Guiding Questions:
1. How does unnecessary work throw a project off schedule?
Answer: As we know the project team members have their own personal standards to
complete their assigned work. To meet their own personal standards, they do additional
efforts which obviously takes time and incurs a cost. It is technically scope creep because
they are adding unauthorized work to the project.
2. What are the 6 processes that make up scope management?
Answer:
1.Plan Scope Management: Planning the process, and creating a scope management plan.
2.Collect Requirements: Defining and documenting the stakeholder’s needs.
3.Define Scope: Developing a detailed project scope statement.
4. Create WBS: Subdividing project deliverables into smaller work units.
5. Validate Scope: Formalizing the acceptance of the deliverables.
6. Control Scope: The ongoing process of monitoring and managing changes to the project
scope.
