GE 6: PIKNIK Discussion

Drako Ledesma

Manilac Lay Labi from Pahilaga. Composed by R. Cayabyab.

- The nature of the performance for me gave a lot if nostalgic emotions. It gave me a
feeling of something that was once good, has now come to pass. Although the melody
was not that catchy, it me somewhat of a sense of calm. The rhythm was also nice
because it made me want to listen to the composition more. I also heard the harmony
when both pianists were playing at the same time. The piece also had a polyphonic
texture where there were different sounds when both pianists played.
Kalesa for piano six hands, premiere. Composed/ Arranged by A. del-Rosario-R. Abapo
Jr.
- For me, the nature of the performance in this piece is very happy and lively. I feel like it
is something you would hear in an early 1900’s black and white Charlie Chaplin movie
during the funny scenes. This time the melody was very lively, and the rhythm was very
catchy. The catchiness of this pieces would make me feel like laughing given its nature.
The harmony in this piece also showed a lot of pitches being played at the same time.
This piece is also polyphonic in texture where different sounds coming from the variety
of pianists are heard.
Recuerdos de Capiz. Composed by J. Nakpil
- For me, the nature of this performance is very gentle and innocent. It feels like you’re
walking around old negros with all the beautiful ancestral houses and lush greenery. The
melody was really pleasant to the ears and the rhythm made me want to appreciate the
piece more. This piece is also lively due to the changes in tempo. The harmony is also
very pleasant where the different pitches go together. The texture is also polyphonic
because there are different sounds when the pianist is playing.
Luha. Composed by F. Buencamino Sr.
- For me, the nature of this performance was sad. The piece evokes a sad experience
where something sorrowful has happened. This is something I would here in a theatrical
play during a sad scene where the actors would score with the music. The melody was
really gentle, and the rhythm was something that makes you think and draws you more
to the piece. The harmony was also evident where different pitches were played at the
same time. The slow tempo also makes it appealing in a sense that the piece is not
rushed. The texture is also polyphonic where the sounds from different chords are
played together.
