Maharashtra State Board of Technical Education Mumbai. (M.S.) MICRO PROJECT On “RECTIFIERS” Submitted by BHAKTI KULKARNI-23 ANIKET MARMATH-32 G.S. Mandal’s Department of Computer Engineering Marathwada Institute of Technology, Polytechnic, Aurangabad. Academic Year: - 2019-2020 MAHARASHTRA STATE BOARD OF TECHNICAL EDUCATION This is to certify that : - Roll Enrollment Exam No. Name of Student No. Seat No. 32. | ANIKET MARMATH 2000660206 23 | BHAKTI KULKARNI 2000660197 have successfully completed “RECTIFIERS” Micro-project for the subject BASIC ELECTRONICS (BEC-22225) as in the enclosed ‘Portfilio’ during her tenure of Completing the Diploma in Computer Engineering from M.I.T. Polytechnic, (CO2I) in Academic Year 2020-2021 Aurangabad with Institute Code 0066. Date: :18/6/2021 Prof. B. CHATERJI Guide Prof.N.H.MHASKE H.0.D ‘Section Break(Next Page) BASIC ELECTRONICS (MICROPROJECT)-22225 e Contents: 1.Definition 2. Information of Rectifier 3.Use of Rectifier 4. Types of Rectifiers 5. Applications e Various types of Rectifiers: e INFORMATION OF RECTIFIER: An electronic devices PN junction diode, used for converting alternating AC voltage or current into unidirectional DC voltage The simplest rectifiers, called half-wave rectifiers, work by eliminating one side of the AC, thereby only allowing One Direction of current pass through. Since of the AC power input goes unsend, half-wave rectifiers as produce a very efficient conversion a more inefficient conversion. A more efficient conversion alternative is a full-wave rectifier which uses both sides of the AC waveform. e USE OF RECTIFIERS: We use rectifiers to change voltage in DC power systems Because it is relatively difficult to convert DC voltage directly in some Scenarios, the simplest solution may be the following process: 1.Convert DC to AC 2.Change the voltage using a transformer 3.Convert AC back to DC using a rectifiers + Arectifier is used to for powering appliances. + There are used with Transformers. + Uses of rectifier while soldering. + Itis also used in AM radio. * TYPES OF RECTIFIERS: 1)Half-wave rectifier 2)Full-wave rectifier A)Centre tapped full wave rectifier B)Full wave bridge rectifier 1.HALF-WAVE RECTIFIER e Definition: A half wave rectifier is an electronic circuit which allows the unidirectional, current to follow through the load during only one-half Period of the input AC cycle. The current always flow only in one directionally half cycle. e IMPORTANT TERMS: 1.Peak inverse voltage 2.Ripple factor 3.Factory efficiency 4.Ripple frequency Primary Secondary Supply (y = Load ‘Step-down Transformer Figure - 2 “ Advantages of HWR: 1)It is very simple in construction 2)It requires less number of component for its construction 3)It is smaller in size A)It is very cheap * Disadvantages of HWR: 1)It has an excessive Ripple Factor 2)It has low rectifier efficiency 3)It produce low output DC voltage and output current 4)lIt requires filter components of higher values for ripple output + Application: The half wave rectifier is used in eliminators which are used for pocket radio, Walkman. 2.FULL WAVE RECTIFIER What is Full Wave Rectifier + Definition: A full wave rectifier is an electronic certificate which allows a unidirectional DC current to flow through the load during the entire period of inputs AC signal “ Advantages of FWR 1)Efficiency is higher 2)the large DC power output 3)Ripple factor is less ++ Disadvantages of FWR 1)more complicated than HWR 2)PIV rating of the diode is higher 3)The cost of the center tap transformer is high * TYPES OF FULL WAVE RECTIFIER 1. Centre tapped full wave rectifier 2. Full wave bridge rectifier 1.CENTER TAPPED FULL WAVE RECTIFIER: (CENTRE -TAP FULL: WAVE RECTIFIER CIRCUIT A full wave rectifier is an electronic circuit which utilizes a Centre tap Transformer and allowed the unidirectional current to flow through the load during the entire period of input AC signal. USES: Used in high current power supply Used in battery charger 2.FULL WAVE BRIDGE RECTIFIER: A rectifier using a diode Bridge that allows the unidirectional current to flow through the load during the entire period of input AC cycle is called the bridge rectifier. ° 4 » USES: used in laboratory DC power supply 4 used in a battery charger used in a high current power supply ca
