2. Patch Management Background Steps

Steps Description

01 WSUS gets update metadata catalog from Microsoft Update

02 WSUS syncs metadata catalog with Site Server

03 WUA scans client for missing updates against WSUS Server

04 Scan results are stored in WMI repository

05 Compliance State messages are sent to Management Point

06 Compliance State messages are sent to SCCM Database

07 Compliance reports shows aggregated scan results

08 Admin UI is used to deploy updates

09 Binaries are downloaded from Microsoft Update

10 Updates are placed in a deployment package on distribution point

11 Client gets policy for deployment

12 Client get update binaries from deployment packages which are available in Distribution point
and stored them in cache on client
13 Updates are automatically installed on schedule or directly by end user

14 Enforcement state messages are send to Management Point

15 Enforcement state messages are send to SCCM Database

16 Deployment reports shows aggregated enforcement results
