Air Pressure Experiment for Kids

This experiment demonstrates air pressure using a balloon, plastic bottle filled with water, straw, and glass. A small hole is made in the bottle and a straw inserted. The balloon is blown up and attached to the bottle neck. When the rubber band is removed, air from the balloon increases the pressure inside the bottle, pushing the water through the straw into a glass. This illustrates how air pressure differentials can force water movement.

straw into the cup /glass! 3. Blow up the balloon, twist and seal the neck with a rubber band.
Note :Be careful as it might shoot out further than you expect. 4. Carefully place the end of the balloon on the bottle neck and put a glass under the

Conclusion: 5. When you are ready remove rubber band and watch as the water shoots out of the
straw into the cup /glass!
Note :Be careful as it might shoot out further than you expect.

This works because air presses down equally on the water in the bottle and in the Conclusion:
straw when there is no balloon present ( or the balloon is tied) but when the rubber
band is removed, air from the balloon increases the air pressure in the bottle pushing
down on the water, forcing it through the straw. It happens because of air pressure
