affected Europe with art, literature, architecture, etc.

The Origin of the Renaissance

← Many historicists think that the Renaissance age began in the late Middle Ages in
Florence and later spread rapidly to the rest of Europe.

← Historians agree the ideas of the Renaissance had their origin in late 13th
century, in particular with the writings of Dante Alighieri and Francesco Petrarca, as well
as the painting of Giotto di Bondone.

← During the Renaissance, art became more valuable. Artists depended totally on
patrons while the patrons needed money to sustain geniuses. Wealth was brought to
Italy in the 14th, 15th, and 16th century by expending trade into Asia and Europe.

The Spread of the Renaissance

← In the 15th century, the Renaissance spread with a great speed from its
birthplace in Florence, first to the rest of Italy, and soon to the rest of Europe. The ideas
transmitted so fast because of the invention of the printing press. As it spread, its ideas
changed and had been adapted into local culture. It had spread so far that even
England, Russia were affected by the Renaissance.

The End of the Renaissance

← Intolerance rose, as did censorship. If your view of Creation or angels was
different from your neighbors, you might well be dragged from your home and be burnt
in the public square.

← Even in the late 1400s, German printers were excommunicated for printing books
not authorized by the Catholic Church. By 1564 there was a list of banned books, and no
book could be printed without permission of Church or State or both. In Catholic
countries the works of Erasmus were prohibited.

← In 1559, Spaniards were forbidden to study at universities except in Spain,

Portugal, or Italy. New views in science and philosophy were repressed. Authors were
imprisoned, book burning became more common, and in 1600 the scientist Giordano
Bruno was burned at the stake.

1
← Both Catholics and Protestants committed acts of violence against people with
contrary beliefs. Spaniards of the 1500s kept busy deporting or killing 270,000 Moors
who chose not to be forcibly converted to Christianity.

← As Renaissance society faded away, the excess discipline and moral policing
made the age from 1550 into the 1700s an age of confusion, depression, and religious
and social despair.

The Effect of the Renaissance

← During the Renaissance age, There were many great artists. Such as Leonardo
da Vinci, Sandro Botticelli, etc. These artists made many art relics which lasted for
extremely long time.

← When it come to the effect of the Renaissance, we can feel it in our modern
society. For example, if the Renaissance has never exist, we might still be in medieval
time. The Renaissance, at least, slide the society into a new period of time. The effect of
society is great.

Even though the Renaissance ended unexpectedly, it affected our modern society. We
should remember that our modern society would have changed if the Renaissance has
not started.
