Standard Sports
Days cancelled
LORENZO GAVILAN VARGAS

Standard Sports Days, usually sched-

uled for the last weekend in June, did
not get past the planning stages this
year.
Standard Lions Club member Dale
Beingessner said the club was unsure
of COVID protocols when the decision
was made.
“The problem is that we had to start
planning way before June 3rd, and we
couldn’t do that because they (Alberta
government) hadn’t decided to lift re-
strictions until recently,” he said. “So
we needed time to plan and we didn’t
know what was going to happen. We
had to make a call in about mid-May
and we just decided, well, it looks like
we’re still locked out, so we’re not go-
ing to do it.”
According to Beingessner, the event
was supposed to be more of a commu-
nity gathering than a fundraiser.
“We didn’t make a whole lot of mon-

WARD, Stephen (Steve) Richard
August 22, 1957 – May 8, 2021
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing
of Steve at the Strathmore Hospital on May 8, 2021
at the age of 63 years. Steve is survived by his lov-
ing family; his wife Terry; sons Richard and Cody;
brothers Aubrey (Kim) and Stuart (Teresa); sisters
Sue (Danny) and Althea; as well as many nieces and
nephews, and great nieces and great nephews. He
was predeceased by his father Lawrence; his mother
Allie; and his sister Penny. Steve’s memory will be
cherished for his kindness, passion for hunting and
fishing, and his sense of humour. He was born in
Fredericton, NB in 1957. He left home in 1973 and
travelled to Winnipeg, MB where he met his wife in
1974. They were married in 1981 and moved to Cal-

Rockyford Rodeo
cancelled, but Bullarama
gets green light
LORENZO GAVILAN VARGAS
Times Reporter

The Rockyford Lions Club has decided to cancel the Rock-

yford Rodeo, but the Bullarama is set to take place on July
24.
The decision to cancel the rodeo was attributed to the in-
convenient timing of COVID restriction announcements.
“We were worried with the amount of planning it takes
to put our rodeo on. We felt as though there would not be
enough time to get that done,” said Darcy Burke, Lions Club
member.
The Lions Club wanted to maintain a July event in place of
the Rockyford Rodeo, so the Bullarama was scheduled. The
Bullarama is a one-day event, instead of the rodeo which Check us out
usually takes place over three days.

rest of the evening.
In 2020, both events were cancelled which had a financial
impact on the Rockyford Lions Club.
“It certainly affected the revenues, and that has a fallout INDIVIDUAL

and organizations and community projects,” noted Burke. OFFICE

In the absence of the money raised by the rodeo, the Lions
Club was forced to look for other ways to raise funds.
“Last month we had a very successful online auction,” ex-
