The D20 common rail engine is designed for optimal day-to-day driving, offering superior torque and power across a wide speed range due to its advanced injection technology. It outperforms competitors with a smaller displacement by maximizing turbocharger and injection coordination, providing enhanced torque and power at lower engine speeds. Additionally, the engine's fast-response turbocharger and high injection pressures facilitate quick torque build-up, making it particularly effective for off-road and heavy-duty applications.

&headline=Performance / Experience Power and torque pick-up&

&sum_1=Engine concept&
&hdl_man_1=Engine concept&
&txt_man_1_1=The D20 common rail engine provides an ideal basis for
day-to-day driving. The focus is on the favourable torque and power curves over the
entire range of speeds used when running the vehicle. The common rail injection
technology offers the ideal technical basis in this respect. The design of this
technology permits precise engine control with optimal fuel atomisation and
combustion.&
&txt_man_1_2=Since the common rail system can work with high injection pressures
even at low engine speeds it offers particularly at low speeds considerable torque
and power advantages over the competition. The D20 common rail engine scores with
enormous tractive power and high torque and power values in the lower speed range.&

&sum_2=Engine characteristics&
&hdl_man_2=Engine characteristics&
&txt_man_2_1=With its engine characteristics the D20 common rail engine has a
distinct edge over competitors with a comparable power despite the fact that its
displacement is about 1.5 l less. The reason for this is the optimal design and
coordination of the turbocharger and injection parameters. Depending on the rating,
the output curve reaches its maximum at about 1400 rpm. A direct comparison with
the predecessor engine, the D2866, shows that the maximum output is constantly
available at an engine speed which is approx. 500 rpm lower.&
&txt_man_2_2=It has also been possible to increase the width of the speed range at
maximum torque compared with the D2866. This means that it is possible to drive
with extremely little shifting. The big torque increase of 32 to 35 %25 (depending
on the rating) ensures effective gritty characteristics on gradients. When the
speed is reduced on gradients there is a great increase in the available torque.
This compensates for the slowing down of the vehicle.&

&sum_3=Moving off&
&hdl_man_3=Moving off&
&txt_man_3_1=At speeds below 1000 rpm stating a full-load torque for the vehicle
deployment is practically meaningless. For this reason our engine graphs do not
show the curve below 1000 rpm.&
&txt_man_3_2=In supercharged engines the boost pressure build-up and the possible
injection quantity dependent on it are essential for smoke-free moving-off torque
and the acceleration from standstill. In this respect the design of the fast-
response turbocharger in the D20 is particularly effective. In addition high
pressures in the common rail injection system allow for large injection quantities
even at low speeds in dynamic run-up. The result is a fast torque build-up similar
to that usual in much larger engines. For building-site and off-road work in
particular these powerful moving-off characteristics are very useful.&
