Introduction
The Bevliner filter housing is designed, manufactured and tested in compliance with Pressure Equipment
Directive 97/23/EC.
The filter housing is designed for filter cartridges that filter fluids through filter media contained in the cartridges.
Operating Conditions
The filter housing is identified by the label on the front of the filter housing (see Figure 1). The label states the
maximum operating pressure for liquid, non-dangerous fluids (see EC 67/548). See Figure 4 for maximum
operating pressure (L) and temperature of the fluid being filtered.
Operators must be adequately trained and equipped with appropriate personal protection. Consult the MSDS for
the product to be filtered for handling information. The MSDS must be thoroughly read and understood before
installing and using the filter housing.
The product being filtered must be compatible with AISI 316L/En 1.4404 stainless steel.
Bevliner Filter Housing Installation
• Wear appropriate clothing (shoes, gloves, etc.) when working with the filter housing.
• Verify that the package has not been damaged upon receipt of the filter housing. If damage has occurred,
or if parts are missing, contact your local Millipore Representative.
• Unpack the housing as close as possible to the final installation site.
• Install the filter housing in a location protected against weather.
• Install the housing in a location that will allow the dome to be removed.
• All supply lines (product, compressed air, steam, etc.) connected to the filter housing must have suitable
safety devices that prevent the system from exceeding pressure and temperature limits.
• The filter housing should not be subject to vibrations, thermal expansions or loads on its connections. If
necessary, fit pipelines with joints or supports that prevent stresses or strains on the filter housing.
• There should be no stray electric currents between the inlet and outlet connections. The feet
of the filter housing (Figure 3, Pos. 7) may be connected to a grounding system.
1. Remove the clamps (Figure 3 Pos. 2) that fasten the dome (Figure 3 Pos. 1) to the lower part. Lift the dome
and set it on a flat surface.
2. Clean the filter housing with hot water and detergents specifically designed for cleaning stainless steel and
appropriate for the application. After washing the filter housing, rinse it out with chlorine-free water. Chlori-
nated water residue (positive chlorine ions) that remains inside the filter housing will accumulate in the edges,
joints or seals because of surface tensions and may cause pitting corrosion that may lead to perforation of
the filter housing’s plates, flanges and walls.
3. Secure the housing to the floor using the adjustable feet or the pipeline with user supplied brackets.
4. Install the legs (Figure 3 Pos. 6), below the base plate (Figure 3 Pos. 4), by screwing them in by hand and
then tightening with a suitable wrench.
5. Install the adjustable feet on the legs, inserting them about half way up the threaded part. The lock nut must
be installed on the foot (Figure 2 Pos. 11).
6. Level the filter housing using the adjustable feet (Figure 3 Pos. 7), fastening them in place by tightening the
lock nut (Figure 2 Pos. 11)
7. When making flanged connections (figure 3: “FLANGE FITTING”) the seal must be properly positioned
(figure 3 pos. 8.2) and the screws properly tightened
Bevliner_Housings_Installation_and_User_Guide 11
8. Connect inlet and outlet fittings so that fluid flows in the directions indicated by the arrows.
Filter Cartridge Installtion
1. Unpack the filter cartridges and ensure that the seals are properly positioned in the filter element. Place the
cartridges in the housing.
2. After installation of all the cartridges, position the perforated check disk on the top part of the cartridge in
the correct direction to avoid abnormal stresses on the cartridges. Tighten the check rods before positioning
the disk when these rods are present. The retainer plate must be locked by the hexagonal nuts and must not
push on the cartridges.
3. The dome O-ring seal must be properly positioned. Install the dome back on the filter housing by installing
the closure clamp (Figure 3, Pos. 2) and tightening it in a cross pattern. Close and tighten the dome until the
pressure required to ensure filter seal is achieved.
Operation
• Never open the closure clamps (Figure 3, Pos. 2) during operation.
• Never exceed the maximum temperature and pressure limits specified in figure 4
• The following conditions must be met when performing an integrity test (figure 4):
- temperature must be below 40 °C
- fluids that are not dangerous when gaseous,
- all cartridges installed with height not less than the height specified in the data plate.
• The filter housing is not suitable for operation with interior pressures lower than atmospheric pressure.
• The filter housing is not designed to resist fatigue stresses.
• Do not subject the housing to uninterrupted pulsed operating cycles.
1. Tighten all dome closure clamps and tightening clamps .
2. Close the drainage and discharge valves (Figure 2 Pos. 2-3).
3. Close the outlet valve (Figure 2 Pos. 4).
4. Turn on the supply pump (or open the supply autoclave valve),
5. Slowly open the inlet valve (Figure 2 Pos. 1) until liquid starts filling the filter housing. And simultaneously
open the relief valve (Figure 2 Pos. 6) until liquid flows, then close the relief valve.
6. Slowly open the outlet valve (Figure 2 Pos. 4).
7. Repeat this procedure to bleed out any residual air in the filter housing.
8. The Bevliner filter housing is now ready to use.
Maintenance
Filter washes and sterilization at regular intervals are recommended to prevent bacteria from forming in the
housing.
All valves on supply lines must be closed before performing filter housing inspection or maintenance (i.e., valve
1, Figure 2) and the outlet valve must be opened (Figure 2, Pos. 4).
Periodically check the condition of components subjected to pressure for signs of corrosion, abrasions, and
deformations.
Inspect and replace seals at least once a year.
