layer (NC-OBC).

Eligibility Criteria for NC-OBC Candidates
The NC-OBC candidate must hold a Bachelor’s Degree, with at least 50% marks or equivalent
CGPA.
Family income should not be more then 8 lakhs per annum.
If a candidate belongs to the OBC-NC category, the respective class must be listed in the
Government of India schedule.
The class and income certificate that the candidate submits to IIM should be in the
Government approved format.
REQUIRED DOCUMENTS:
Verified Income and Asset certificate issued by competent authority.
A copy of the NC-OBC certificate must be uploaded at the time of the CAT application registration.
The NC-OBC certificate must be shown and a photocopy should be submitted at the time of
interviews.

Competent Authorities to Issue NC-OBC Certificate
Candidates must ensure that the caste certificate has been issued and signed by the competent
authorities.
The authorities competent to issue the certificate are:
District Magistrate.
Additional District Magistrate.
Collector.
Deputy Commissioner.
Additional Deputy Commissioner.
Deputy Collector.
I Class Stipendiary Magistrate.
City Magistrate - Taluka Magistrate.
Executive Magistrate –
Extra Assistant Commissioner.
Chief Presidency Magistrate .
Additional Chief Presidency Magistrate .
President Magistrate .
Revenue Officers not below the rank of Tahsildar .
Sub Divisional Officer of the area where the person and his family normally resides .
Development Officer.
Certifying authority should be one concerned with the locality in which the person applying for a
certificate has his permanent place of abode.
Revenue Authorities have been empowered to issue certificates on the basis of a certificate
issued by an MP, MLA, Gazetted Officer etc. But they should do so only after having made proper
verification and after having satisfied themselves of the corrections of that certificate.

1. Under which categories can I apply for CAT?
You can apply under the following categories:

Until further communication, all candidates applying under the NC-OBC category shall be inevitably
considered under the NC-OBC category, provided they meet the NC-OBC eligibility as explained in question
number (Q3) below.

No changes in the category will be entertained after the closure of the registration window.

2. I have a valid OBC (Non-creamy layer) certificate in the similar format uploaded on the CAT
2020 website. Can I use the same certificate or do I have to download the certificate
template from the CAT website and fill it again?
Answer: If your valid certificate fulfills the following conditions, you can upload the same certificate:
The certificate should have been issued by a competent authority.
The name of the caste and caste number should appear in the certificate.
District and the State or Union Territory of your ordinary residence.
The Ministry’s resolution/order number should be available.
The certificate should be in Hindi or English only.

Magistrate/Collector/Deputy Commissioner/Additional Deputy Commissioner/Deputy Collector/1st
Class Stipendiary Magistrate/Sub-Divisional magistrate/Taluka Magistrate/Executive Magistrate/Extra
