Blended Learning Lesson Plan

Lesson Title:
Reflection of me
Objectives:
Students will be able to create an online presentation showing a look into their personality.
Students will be able to use photoshop and PowerPoint correctly.
State Standards:
Anchor Standard 1: I can use past, current and emerging technology tools, procedures, and
processes to create a variety of media artworks in a safe and responsible manner.
Anchor Standard 3: I can develop, refine, and select work for presentation that reflects specific
content, ideas, skills, and media works for display.

Context: I want students to express themselves through multimedia. Before this lesson they
created different presentations on PowerPoint and did edits on photoshop. They will bring that
previous knowledge to create a presentation on how they view themselves. After this lesson will
be a yearly refection from students. To prepare them for the reflection, with this lesson I want
them to also write a paragraph about themselves, what they like, and where they see themselves
in the future.
Data: I am collecting data from students with a survey they took where I asked what their
personal strengths and weaknesses are. I will then create groups of students with different traits
so they can come out of their comfort zone with the group discussion. The data that I will collect
from this lesson is who works well with who for future partnered assignments.
Materials:
Introduction- Smartboard
Teacher directed- MacBook for Google
Collaborative- Notebook and pen
Independent- MacBook for photoshop, PowerPoint, and music streaming
Closure- PowerPoint
Procedures:
Introduction (20 minutes): After students grab a MacBook and take their seats, I will
explain what the overall project is with the smart board. This is a multistep project about how we
see ourselves. I will explain the steps we are taking to complete the project. For this project
students will be photoshopping an image of something that is meaningful to them but giving
their item human characteristics that are similar to themselves. They will put their edited picture
in a PowerPoint and attach a song to play in the background that reminds them of themselves. A
short paragraph about what is important to them should be included. I will show previous
examples from other students.
Teacher Directed (15 minutes): Students will use their computer to look for a photo and
song. They will show me for approval because I need to make sure the photos and songs are
school appropriate. I will also give ideas to students on how they can make their item human
like. Once time is up, I will assign students to a group and tell them where to sit.

Collaborative (15 minutes): This is when they will have small group discussions with
their groups. They should be sharing with each other their likes and characteristics they think fit
them. The purpose of this section is to get to know their classmates more while also noting what
they think of themselves. They also should be discussing their life goals.
Independent Digital (45minutes): This will be the bulk of the activity. Students will be
editing their photo by adding eyes, glasses, hair, etc. Once done they will add the photo to a
short PowerPoint presentation. There will be four slides, title, their edit, song, and the paragraph
they wrote about themselves.

Closure (20 minutes): Students will rejoin their groups and share their PowerPoint with
each other. They will explain to each other why they chose that object and why they edited it the
way they did. They will also explain the meaning behind the song they chose and why they
chose it.

Rationale:
I want students to use photoshop because I think photoshop is a valuable skill these days. It is
also perfect to learn about editing in photoshop in a media arts class. This supports my South
Carolina standard because photoshop is a current technology tool and they are using it to create
artwork. This might make students curious about careers in digital media or graphic designing.
I want students to use PowerPoint because PowerPoint is very relevant, and they will be using it
for the rest of the time they are in school and probably even in their careers. This supports my
learning standard because students are showing their work and ideas in a presentation.
