Objectives:
1. To build a Samba File Server
2. To obtain a Linux Distribution from a File Server
3. To share the Linux Distribution to other members of the group
Task:
Getting the Ubuntu Server installation image from the FTP server.
After getting the Ubuntu server from the FTP server, install it to a virtual machine. In installing
the Ubuntu server first you will choose the language you prefer.
Second is to choose the keyboard configuration.
Now choose the “Install Ubuntu” to start the installation on the server.
After choosing the installation for Ubuntu, the next step is to configure a network so it can
access the internet for some updates.
Just click or choose the “done” in this step.
Click the “Use an Entire Disk” so the Ubuntu will be install to the whole disk.
In this step you will choose the disk where I can install the server. In this image I only have one
disk.
The image shows the summarization of your file system.
After checking the summarization and click the done, it will prompt like the image below and
choose the continue to agree to the condition stated.
This step is to setup the profile for your server.
This is the installation of the Ubuntu.
After the installation, configure first the network to be able to connect from other servers. This
part is important to get the CentOS installer from the designated server.
After configuring the addresses save it, then type the command below to apply the
configuration.
To check if the configuration was successful check the ip addresses by typing the command
“ifconfig”.
To enable the installation of samba server, first it is needed to type this command below.
This part is to install the samba to my Ubuntu server. Type the command “sudo tasksel install
samba-server” to start the installation.
Create a backup file for the samba configuration.
To be able to get the CentOS, configure the samba.
If done configuring the samba, restart it by using the command below.
Now that the samba is installed, I can get the CentOS installer from the server of my groupmate.
After getting the CentOS installer from the designated server, install it in the virtual box.
The image below show what language would I used during the installation process.
Next is to select the destination where the OS can be installed.
In this part you can do a partition or can use the entire disk.
Once finished choosing the destination it can begin the installation process.
Make sure that it will install the Server with GUI.
While installing the OS, you can set the root password and the user account.
After the installation it will automatically reboot and now the CentOS is ready to use.
General Observation
In this activity, it is require to get the CentOS installer from the samba of the designated server.
Installing the updated version of the Ubuntu is bit difficult because it is different from the Ubuntu 16.04.
Lesson Learned
In this activity I learned how to used the new version of the Ubuntu and the proper process of installing
the CentOS.
Recommendation
I recommend that to be able perform this activity it is needed to have knowledge about the difference
between the latest and the old version of Ubuntu.
Conclusion
In this activity we install the Ubuntu server and create a samba file server to copy the CentOS installer to
the one who get it from the instructor’s server. Also, we install the CentOS which is the main goal of this
activity.
