BJJ Game Plan
A beginners guide to developing a game
plan for BJJ competitions
Advantages of Having a Well
Drilled Game Plan
Don’t offer steps or strategies they people should try - just share a list
of things that people can acquire to help them out.
Eliminate Hesitation During A Match
You can pull the trigger on executing your techniques without thinking. Instead of
being stuck in a sort of analysis paralysis.
Kill The Nerves
Having a game plan will give you a better sense of preparedness. Instead of worrying
about what your opponent will do. The game plan will give you a clear set of
techniques to replay through your head before the match.
Control The Pace and Tempo of The Match.
If you initiate first. Your opponent will be forced to react to you rather than set up
their own techniques.
Adjust Easier During The Match
Having a clear plan will allow your mind to be more clear and free during the match.
Opposed to having no game plan and having to focus on what you plan to use at every
step of the way.
If your opponent does something different than you anticipated. Having a clear head
will allow more space in your mind to quickly make adjustments.
Game Plan Outline
Below is a pretty simple outline but enough that it gives a clear
direction. A game plan needs to provide direction but still be simple
enough that it allows flexibility as situations will always change once
you're actually out there.
