What’s In
Name at least three philosophers and explain how each of their
philosophies has influenced business practices. Write your answer on a
separate sheet of paper.

1. Aristotle’s Philosophy - In all the thinkers who addressed ethical

issues, Aristotle was the most pragmatic and business-minded.
Aristotle concludes in his Nicomachean Ethics that the job of the
leader is to create an atmosphere in which all members of an
organisation can achieve their full potential.
2. Socrates' Philosophy - He sought out values and deeds that were
worthy of living by, establishing an ethical foundation on which to
make decisions. Socrates was a true believer that knowing and
comprehending goodness, or the right, was sufficient for happiness.
To him, knowing what is nice is almost the same as being
enlightened.
3. Immanuel Kant’s Philosophy - Kant claimed that only humans are
capable of following their own rules. Kant's ethics is therefore an
obligation ethics rather than a consequence ethics. An honest
individual is one that behaves with the best of motives. Since we
have free will, we are willing to behave in this manner.

What’s New
One day, you and your female friend went to the market to buy washable
face masks. The stall owner, who was wearing hijab* approached the two
of you. Your friend could not control her giggles while the Muhaajaba**
was taking. As a response, the stall owner got mad and shouted at you and
your friend.
What are you going to tell the stall owner?
- I'll apologize and remind myself and my friend that we should value
other cultures. We should love and welcome everyone, regardless of
culture or tradition.
What advice would you give to your friend?
- Accepting that there are many other traditions other than their own is
one of the most crucial first steps people can take to think about other
cultures. We need to start thinking about the benefits of different
cultures and how being around diverse communities of people will
improve our lives. Being open to learning about other cultures will also
inspire people to form diverse friendship groups that include people of
various races, ethnicities, faiths, and sexual orientations.
