The Trends, Networks, and Critical Thinking in the 21st Century Digital Learning Module is
a digital module carefully developed and designed by the subject teacher as a supplemental
material for online learning to meet your needs as 21st century learners, more particularly to
develop your communication, creativity, critical thinking, collaboration skills and character
regardless of physical distance.
This module is divided into lessons based on the Most Essential Learning Competencies
(MELC). MELC is a new curriculum anchored on the K-12 Basic Education Curriculum specifically
designed by the Department of Education (DepEd) to cater to Filipino students’ education
needs during the time of pandemic, where face-to-face education is no longer possible.
Activities in this module are categorized into five (5) phases—Engage, Explore, Explain,
Elaborate and Evaluate—based on the learning process in the Revised Bloom’s Taxonomy,
and are done either individually (I) or collaboratively (C). The Explain phase is done during
synchronous (online) classes.
Reprinting and reproduction of this module is prohibited and is protected under the Copyright
Law of the Philippines.

The course provides opportunities for students to discover patterns and extract meanings
from emerging trends. It aids in developing their critical and creative thinking skills—essential
tools for decision making and understanding “ethics of care”. Global trends in the 21st century
are examined and are either accepted or rejected on a sound set of criteria. Students will be
asked to create and analyze scenarios that will challenge them to (1) formulate their stances on
issues or concerns; (2) propose interventions and; (3) formulate alternative futures. The stu-
dents will realize the interconnections between their neural connections and social realities.

Chapter 3
Global Networks: Labor and Migration
Period: Week 5-6
We live in an increasingly interconnected and interdependent world. Globalization touches every
part of our lives, from the products we buy to the food we eat to the ways we communicate with
one another. Globalization is also tied to some of the other biggest issues we face in the modern
era, including climate change, trade, terrorism, and the spread of deadly diseases.
There are several benefits and downsides of being intertwined with countries and economies
around the world, but globalization has both supporters and opponents. Globalization is simply
a fact of modern life, no matter which side you're on, so it's crucial to consider how it impacts
us and the choices we make. In this module, we will
• explain the concrete effects of globalization and to one’s daily life;
• explain the need for collaboration and cooperation to achieve interconnectedness of people
and nations;
• discuss the different contributions of the parts to a whole and the important role of creative
imagination in putting together the carious parts of a whole; and
• illustrate the origin of the different components of a gadget, business enterprise, industrial/
technological/agricultural product etc. through a mind map and reflection essay.
