LESSON PLAN

between and using literal and figurative language and verbal and non-verbal cues; use

CONTENT STANDARD:
The learner demonstrates understanding of Philippine literature during the Period of
Apprenticeship as a means of examining conflicts; various purposeful listening and
viewing strategies; difference between literal and figurative language; ways to extract
and condense information based on library sources; verbal and non-verbal cues in oral
communication; and types of phrases, clauses, and sentences.

1. OBJECTIVES
After this lesson students will be able to:
· describe figures of speech; and
· identify figures of speech that show comparison (simile, and metaphor)

III. PROCEDURES
***Preliminary Activities/Daily Routine (3 mins.)
· Greetings
· Checking of attendance
· Checking of classroom condition
· Review (3 mins.)
Determine whether the following statement uses Literal or Figurative
language. Write L if it is Literal and F if it is Figurative.
· Berto was tasked by Delia to kill Berto’s adopted dog.
· Eddie’s feeling toward his sister was an overheated kettle
· For Eddie, his sister was a thorn that should be plucked.
· David’s feet are like propellers of a steamboat.
· David’s eyes were diamonds shining upon seeing the big package.

· ACTIVITY:" A Meaningful Object" (5 mins)
Instruction:
The class will be divided into 5 groups with 4 person each group.
On a piece of paper, think of an object that will describe your groupmates
as a student. Draw it on a piece of paper.
Use the statement: “I am like a/an ________
· ANALYSIS 1: "This is Good to Know!" (3 mins.)
Answer these questions: How did you find our activity for today? Was it
easy to think of an object that will describe your groupmates as a student?
What made you say that this object best describes them?
· ABSTRACTION (15 mins)
(This can be seen on page 187 of their LM.)
· Using the comics as materials, the Students will be given an answer sheet
and answer the ff. questions based on their understanding in the comics
that they have read.
· PROCESS QUESTIONS:
· What is a figure of speech?
· What do we mean by comparison?
· What is the difference between metaphor and simile?
· What are the figures of speech that shows comparison?
· Give some examples of statements showing simile and metaphor.
· APPLICATION (15 mins.)
"Find me!"
Instruct the students to go with their group for them to prepare their
assignments (yesterday).Each group will present their Assignment in the
class and explain where is the simile and metaphor in the conversation in
the comics.
IV. EVALUATION
Each group will have a representative to underline the statements
that contains simile and metaphor in their work. Each group's assignment
will be corrected by the other groups guided by the criteria.
