Illustrado-Episode 3-5
Reflection Paper
Episode 3 was all about the challenges faced by
the Mercado family. I believe every family has its own
problem to be solved and that’s part of our life but
the good side we could ever see in this episode was the
relationship between Rizal and his Yaya Lina. She molds
Rizal’s character and truly loved him like her own son.
I commend Yaya Lina’s dedication to her work and her
compassion towards the family of our national hero.
The fourth episode was one of hardest challenge to
Rizal’s family. Her mother was imprisoned because of
false accusation against her. We saw how rotten the
justice system was during the Spanish period. But up
until now, injustice is still evident. My father was
also a victim of injustice just like the mother of
Rizal. Indeed, as long as we live in a world ruled by
Satan, there is always injustice. I believe no person
could ever stop injustices and evils, it is only
Jehovah God who could.
In Episode 5, Pepe (Rizal) was put in danger
because of not paying homage to a guardian civil. I
think this is still true today in some places of our
country. The bystanders or the pioneers (siga) always
wanted a mandatory honor/respect from the newcomers.
Clearly, it is not only the Spaniards who possess this
bad traits of feeling superior to others but also some
of our countrymen.
