Information. What is information?

According to Merriam Webster Dictionary, Information is a


knowledge obtained from investigation, study, or instruction. While Oxford Dictionary's own definition
of the word Information are facts provided or learned about something or someone. And Wikipedia says
that Information is associated with data, as data represents values attributed to parameters,
and information is data in context and with meaning attached. In terms of
communication, information is expressed either as the content of a message or through direct or
indirect observation. In my own opinion of the word information, it is a knowledge or data gathered that
can be obtained through assessment which includes interview, observation and examination. Those
knowledges that contains facts to a certain person or etc.

Information Security is the protection of information and information systems from unauthorized


access, use, disclosure, disruption, modification, or destruction in order to provide confidentiality,
integrity, and availability. Information Security is the process of protecting the intellectual property of an
organization or individual, or simply it is the protection of data or information so that people who should
not have access to it cannot distribute, see, change, or delete it. And I can apply this Information
Security in the Clinical Area through keeping the identity and informations regarding the patient
confidential. The patient's chart have all the patients information including the patient's profile, vital
signs, input and output, diagnoses, medications, doctors order, nurses notes, the information gathered
upon admission, cephalocaudal examination, laboratory and test results, and with that I should make
sure that this patient's chart shouldn't be seen by anyone except authorized personnel from the
institution.

Republic Act No. 10173, otherwise known as the Data Privacy Act is a law that seeks to protect all forms
of information, be it private, personal, or sensitive. It is meant to cover both natural and juridical
persons involved in the processing of personal information. I can apply this law when I become a
registeres nurse through keeping my mouth shut with regards to my patients condition including all the
private informations that I've gathered with the patient's cooperation. Also, by keeping the patient's
chart which contains all information regarding a certain patient upon admission, during hospitalization
and discharge, safe and can't be seen by other person who doesn't have the authority.
