This revision has been taken upto align it with ISO 404 :1992 by adootion under dual numbering system. ‘Tho text of ISO Standard has been approved as suitable for publication as an Indian Standard without devitions. Certain terminology and conventions are, however, not identical to those used in Indian Standards. Attention is Parttutarly drawn tothe folowing: 2) Wherever the words “intemationat Standard’ appear rforring to this standard, they should be read as ‘indian Standard. 'b) Comma ()) has been used as a decimal marker in the International Standard while in Indian Standards, the ‘curent practice is to use a point () as the decimal marke. In this adopted standard, reference appears to certain Intemational Standords for which Indian Standards also exist. ‘The corresponding Indian Standards which are fo be substituted in their respective places ara isted below along with their degree of equivalance forthe ediions indicated: International Standard Corresponding indian Standard Degree of Equivelence 180 31-0 : 1981 General principles IS 1890 (Part 0}: 1995 Quantities and {Identical ‘concerning quanttios, units and units: Part 0 Genoral principles. Definitions For the purposes of this International Standard the following definiions, in addition to those in ISO 4948-1, 180 4948-2 and 180 6929, apply. 31 inspection: Actviies suchas _ measuring, ‘examining, testing, gauging one or more characteristics ‘of a product or service and comparing these with ‘specified requirements to determine conformity, (Betton taken trom ISO 8402 C1) ‘32 testing: Any operation or action to determine one ‘or more properties or characteristics of a material or product. 3.3 continuous inspection: Regular inspection and testing of tho characteristics and/or manufacturing parameters of a product manufactured over a long pporiod, normally in large quantities and always to the ‘same specication. The tests and inspection are carried ‘out according to a procedure agreed between the manufacturer and purchaser. This agreement may cover, for example, speciicaions on: ts 8910 : 2010 ISO 404 : 1992 — the characteristics or manufacturing parameters to be tested or inepocted; — the condition of the products at the time of testing and inspection; — tho assessment of the test results (roquently staistical agsossments); — the right of the purchaser to verity the proper carrying ‘ut ofthe test inspections. 3.4 non-specific inspection and testing: Inspection and testing carried out by the manufacturer in ac cordance with his own procedures, to assess whether products made by the seme manufacturing process meet the requirements of the order. The products inspected and tested may not necessarily be the products actualy supplied. NOTE 1 Currnt discussion incest thatthe tem inspection an testing wilbe replaced by aspect 3.5 specific inspection and testing: inspection and testing carried out, before delivery, according to the {echnical requirements of the order, on the products to be ‘supplied or on test units of which the product supplied is part, in order to verify whether these products comply with {he requirements ofthe order. (See 3.4 note 1.) 13.6 inspection ropresentative: One or mote individuals ‘who is/are either: 4) the Inspector(s) designated inthe oficial regulations; ) the manufacturer's authorized representatve(s), who {sfare independent of the production process, acting on behalf ofthe purchaser(s); ©) the purchaser's authorized representative. 3.7 test unit: The number of places or the tonnage of products to be accoptod or rejacted together, on the basis of the tests to be cared out on sample producis in cordance with the requirements of the product standard ‘or order. (See figure 1.) NOTE 2 This torn is sometimes referred to in other in tematonal Standards as "inspection lo" or "batch" 38 sample product: Stem (a shoot, for example) selected from a test unil for inspection and/or testing. (See figure 1.) 3.9 sample; A sufficient quantly of material taken from the sample product for the purpose of producing one oF mare test pleces. (See figure 1 NOTE 3 in certain cases, the sample may be the sample product ise 340 rough specimen: Part of the sample having lundergone mechanical treatment, followed by heat ‘treatment where appropriate, for the purpose of producing test pieces. (See figure 1.) 3.40 test plece: Part of the sample, with spectied dimensions, machined or unmachined, brought to a Tequired condition for submission to a given test. (Soo figure 1.) NOTE 4 in certain cases, the test plece may be the sample {set or te rough specimen. 3.42 cast (heat) analysis: A chemical analysis rep- resentative of the cast (neat) determined by the stoelmakor in accordance with his own procedures. 349 product analysis: A chemical analysis carried futon the product. 3.44 sequential testing: A group or series of tests ‘rom which the average and individual results are used to demonstrate that the requirements of the order ‘andlor product standard have been satisfied, 4 Information to be supplied by the purchaser 4.1 The purchaser shall select the steel typo, the shape of the product and the dimensions, taking the intended Processing and use into account. He may take the ‘manufacturer's advice in making his choice, The order shal provide all the information necessary or describing the product and its characteristics, and also details concerning delivery such as: 1) mass, length, area, number of pieces to be de- lvered; ) the product form (it may be a number refering to. drawing, for example); ©) the nominal dimensions; 4) the tolerances on the characteristics in lems a) and); e) ‘the designation of the steo!; 4) dotivery condiion (type of heat treatment, surface tveatment etc. 9) spect requirements for surace andlor internal Quality (see 7.4); hi) the type of inspection dacument required and, where ‘ot specified inthe product standard, the inspection ‘and testing requirements (see clause.
