Capacitance problems

Q#1: Three capacitors are in parallel. They have capacitance values of

8F, 2F and 3F. What is their total capacitance?

Solution:
For capacitors in parallel the formula for total capacitance is:
Ceq=C1+C2+C3
=8+2+3=13F
Q#2: What is the total capacitance of a series circuit with capacitors
of 5F, 1.1F and 7.5F?
Solution :
The total capacitance of a series circuit is
1/Ceq=1/C1+1/C2+1/C3
=1/5+ 1/1.1+ 1/7.5
1/Ceq=1.24F
Ceq = 0.8F
Q#3: If E= 4 N/C and charge stored q= 5C note the value of
permittivity of free space Ꜫo= 8.85418782×10-12 m-3 kg-1s4A2 Find the
area A for plate.
Solution:
E= q/Ꜫo A,
A = q/Ꜫo E
Q#4: A capacitor has a capacitance of 55 x 10^-15 F, if it is charged to
5.3 V , how many excess electrons are there on its negative plate?
Solution:
C= 55 x 10^-15 F, V= 5.3V
Q=?, N=?
Q=CV= (55 x 10^-15) (5.3)
N= total charge/ charge of electron
=q/e= (55 x 10^-15) (5.3)/ 1.6 x10^-19
N=1.8x 10^6 electrons

Q#1: Three capacitors, each with a capacity of 3.5F are arranged in
parallel. What is the total capacitance of this circuit?

Q#2: Calculate the total capacitance of a circuit with the following

three capacitors in series. 10F, 15F, 5F

Q#3: A capacitor has a capacitance of 55 x 10^-15 F, if it is charged to

5.3 V , how many excess protons are there on its positive plate?
Q#4: Find electric field intensity E in N/C when a capacitor stores a
charge of 2C and area of plates is 2m^2 (permittivity of free space Ꜫo=
8.85418782×10-12 m-3 kg-1s4A2 ).
