Infinite Undo and Auto save
Windows >settings/preferences > preferences to open pop up window. Left bar (catagories)
> undo
Turn on. Press infinite.

Enable Auto save section.
Incremental saving
File>save scene> pops up>
Click incremental save on.

STANDARD WINDOWS MENU BAR
Up on top: file, edit, creat, modify, display, mesh, edit mesh, mesh tools, curves, surfaces
Tools and actions for your scene.
SHELF
Icons for common tasks. Such as polymodeling primitives. Cube cone cylinder etc .. curves and surfaces.
Etc. Primitive shapes are the basic shapes used to create an object.
VIEW PORT
Where you view your work. Or objectd from different perspectives
Change viewport , turn display options on and off, view, shading, lighting etc
TOOL BOX
Really common tools on the left. Like selection tool (Q) move tool (w) rotate( e) and scale (r )
QUICK LAYOUT
Perspective and quick layout methods. And outliner.
Channel box
Lets you edit attributes and key values of each object. Transform attributes are shown by default.
Usually same for all objects. Below youll see the input which is specific to a selected onject or any
changes to it.
Transform tools such as move xyz axis, scale or rotate. Visibility on and off
Input : width, height, subdivisions etc.

Attribute editor
Gives you ways of selecting and changing ways of certain things.
Outliner
Windows> outliner. Pops on left of screen. Shows all the entities of shapes you create.
Time slider
Used for animation, counting the frames, timeline, the number of frames etc.
Work space selector:
Dropdown. Custom or predefined arrangement of windows and panels for use of workspace . default is
classic

Creating a project and saving
Projects
To save different elements of the 3d project. Model, images, sound
File> project window> click> open the pop and click on “new” > rename the project> choose a location>
below youll see the folder names. Click accept. Will create your project.
Maya will create a folder with project name in the location you selected. Inside will be the sub folders.
NEW SCENE
File > new scene (cntr+N)
File> save scene as> give it a name . it will be in your project folder you saved in a sub folder called
scenes.give it a name. click ok.
Colour codes: axis.
Red: x axis
Yellow: y asis
Blue: Z axis
Navigating in Maya
Alt+ left click , move around camera/ different angle
Alt +R click and drag. Zoom
Alt + middle mouse. Pan side to side
F – frame select and centers.
A – frame all /everythinh in scene
Marking menu
Right click and these options appear for the onkect. Vertex, face, edge, object mode, multi – etc
Snapping.
To align to a desired point easily. Snap to grid, snap to point, snap to vertices, snap to curve.
Layers window:
By default youll usually have it open below the right bottom corner . you can create an empty layer. Or
create a layer from selected. Double click on layer and rename it.
V : visibility . on and off to hide these layers
Bevel
Smoothing the edges. Basically makes a new face out of the selected vertex and edge.
Edit mesh> bevel ( press control B)
Poly bevel menu will allow you to make some changes to properties.
Bevel makes edges smoother.
Extrusion
You can add polygons to polygon faces by extruding face, edge or vertices. It creates extra geometry
from the extrusion points. Bring faces out.
Edit mesh > extrude (control E)
Extrude can be used to add thickness to an object youre making/
Bridge
Right click, go to edge mode. Click on one edge, shift click and select other edge, press bridge. And fill
the gap. Fill geometry/ filling a hole.
Append to polygon.
You can add polygons to an existing polygon mesh. Select the border edges. Click on one side and the
other side. And enter.

Import an image plane
For reference to guide you make an object you want to create.
View>imageplane> import image .
Use scale and move tool to get it into place.
Select image. Go to attribute editor > imageplane shape 1> texture filter> dropdown select
mitmaptrilinear.
Multicut tool
Freehand tool to add additional edge loops. Seclect the multicut tool, hold control to get a complete
edge loop. Move the mouse over.
Crease tool
When we smooth our shape how much we want them to be smoothed. Mesh tool > crease tool.
Middle mouse, press and hold and drag to see how smooth it is.
Parenting.
When one object is a parent object and one is a child, whatever parent does, child does same. Creates a
sort of hierarchy.
Select child. Then parent. Go to edit > parent. This creates a hyrachy. So when you select parent and
move, they all move together.
Soft select.
Vertex mode. Select the top vertex. Influence vertices around it. Closest ones will effect the most.
Furthest less effect
Double click on your move tool. Soft select on. The mesh goes yellow.
Press B. toggle on and off.
MESH PREVIEW
Smooth mesh preview > 3 on keyboard. Makes it look like once its smooth.
To get definitions, have edges closer together.

Mix of both .
