Surface irrigation is where, by gravity, water is applied and spread over the soil surface.

It is by
far the most widespread method of irrigation in the world and has been practiced practically
unchanged for thousands of years in many countries.

Here in Barangay Calapagan, Surface Irrigation has always been the common method that is
used and was provided by the National Irrigation Administration (NIA). With this type of terrain
in here, it adapts well to flat topography and can operate without drainage outlet; works well
for short-term water supply, makes the optimum use of rainwater and can achieve high
application efficiency. With this method of irrigation it helps small farmers to supply water to
their crops even without the help of modern technologies which saves them a lot of money
from financial expense.
