Understanding "There is" vs. "There are"

There are several grammatical structures used with "there is/are" and "there isn't/aren't" to talk about whether singular or plural nouns exist or are present. For singular nouns, "there is" is used in affirmative sentences and "there isn't" or "there is not" in negative sentences. For plural nouns, "there are" is used in affirmative sentences and "there aren't" in negative sentences. Some examples are provided to illustrate the different structures.
