1. Some people believe watching TV is bad for children.
Others believe it is a good
thing. Compare these two views. Which view do you agree with and why? Please
provide specific reasons, details, and examples to support your response.
Some people believe watching TV is bad for children while other people believe that is a good
option for children these two views have different arguments for example people that believe
it is not an adequate option have arguments that affects a normal development because
staying all day in front of a screen expose children to violent or sexual content, sedentarism
also affecting social abilities. On the other hand, people that believe it is a good thing argue
that kids need distractions, enjoy watching TV programs as cartoons while their parents are
busy, or they do not have company to play with other children.
From my point of view, I believe watching TV is not the best thing for children, it is not a
mystery that nowadays childhood is often vulnerable of all information devices when I used to
take care of my cousin, I noticed that he was exposed to violent content because while I was
cooking, and he was in front of the screen, I decided to see what he was doing and I watched
violent videos, this is a consequence that his parents did not have parental control for these
kinds of programs. So, it matters that parents need to pay attention about what kind of
content their sons are watching this is because children are watching content that affect their
feelings.
Another reason is that children ignore to play or share moments with other kids, for example
when I was a child I liked to play with my cousins. Although when I went to their houses, they
were just on front of the TV for 6 or 7 hours and forgot absolutely about play with me, did not
allow to have social abilities, missing moments, and friends.
As to sedentarism, to stay in home all day just watching movies or cartoons makes that
children development will be sedentary because it prevents to know about other activities as
sport, dance, or other extracurricular activities and when they will be adults it would be their
lifestyle.
It is not a mystery that nowadays childhood is often vulnerable of all information devices,
affecting their development watching content that is highly sensible for their maturity and age.
2. Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? Intelligence is the most
important characteristic for a university professor to possess. Use reasons, details,
and examples to support your response.
I disagree that Intelligence is an important characteristic for teachers, because it brings the
knowledge that they want to bring however, is not the most important from my perspective
there are other characteristics as: emotional intelligence, social skills and bring good
explanations to the students that are more important. So, a good professor has a combination
of factors that make them good.
Firstly, for a teacher is necessary to have emotional intelligence by the reason that they need
to express their ideas in front of many students, showing security about the topic. For
example, when I was in high school, I had a teacher who was nervous all the time that he
entered to the classroom, so my other partners did not pay attention about he was talking
about, so, at the end he did not resist the pressure and he quit.
Secondly, it is indispensable for teachers have communication and bring correct answers to
students, ergo, knowing about a topic or being an expert does not mean that you can explain it
to someone, to give an example in my university I met two teachers that despite they have
many masters and have a PhD, their classes were awful they did not correctly answer student
questions and other times did not give an answer.
Finally, being experts in different topics, occasionally being a good teacher the knowledge it is
not enough. Then other abilities or skills reflect more importance as have good communication
with students.
