Direction: Read and understand the definition of entrepreneurs and entrepreneurship and the
important characteristic of entrepreneurs then answer the questions that follow.
Entrepreneurship is the activity of setting up a business or businesses, taking on financial risks in
the hope of profit. It is what people do to take their career and dreams into their hands and lead it
in the direction of their own choice. While entrepreneur is a person who sets up a business with
the aim to make a profit and create a fulltime, sustainable business with employees. If your
entrepreneurial mindset is focused on creating a profitable business, you fit the entrepreneur
definition. However, the entrepreneur meaning involves much more than being a business or job
creator. They’re the leaders that strikes out in their own to improve society. Whether they’re
creating jobs or new product, they constantly take action to ensure the worlds progress.
Below are few important characteristics of a good entrepreneur:
Hardworking: one of the important characteristics of a good entrepreneur is hardworking. This
means habitually working diligently for a long period of time. Hardworking people keep on
improving their performance to produce good products and/or provide good services.
Self-confident: Entrepreneurs have confidence in one ability and own judgement. They exhibit
self-confidence in order to cope with all the risk of operating their own business.
Disciplined: Successful entrepreneurs always stick to the plan and fight the temptation to do what
is an important.
Committed: A good entrepreneur accepts full responsibility of everything of his or her business.
He/she gives full commitment and solid dedication to make the business successful.
Able to accept change: Nothing is permanent but change. Change occurs frequently. When you
own a business, you should face your challenges and cope with changes. Capitalize on positive
changes to make your business grow.
Creative: An entrepreneur should be creative and innovative to stay in the business and in order
to have an edge over the other competitors.
Has the initiative: An entrepreneur takes the initiative. You must put yourself in a position where
you are responsible for the failure or success of your business.
Profit- oriented: An entrepreneur enters into the world of business to generate profit or additional
income. This shall become the bread and butter for you and for your family as well. Therefore, you
must see to it that the business can generate income.
Q1. What is entrepreneurship really about?
Entrepreneurship is the concept or the idea of starting and entering the business industry. This
includes taking risks to make investments to start or improve an existing business where one can
sell products and services; and make profit out of it.
Additionally, this industry is a warzone. Tons of entrepreneurs have their own businesses and
unique ideas of selling their provisions. Thus, when entering entrepreneurship, one must give his
best to come up with unique and updated ideas of what to offer the customers and how to sell. In
short, entrepreneurship is risky but profitable where one joins the battle of resiliency and
creativity for their businesses to sell and to survive in the industry
Q2. Does entrepreneurs are the ones creating a jobs? Why?
Aside from the jobs offered by the government, entrepreneurs also provide job opportunities for
people. This is solely because a business is hard to or cannot be operated by one man; having a
team to carry out works would make the business flow more organized and effective. Thus,
entrepreneurs search for job applicants that meet their requirements and are capable of working
for them. As a result, people are given more job opportunities that are non-governmental. So
technically, entrepreneurs do create jobs.
Q3. What makes a person a good entrepreneur?
There are many entrepreneurs in the business industry. Some are successful, some are not. This
is because some entrepreneurs possess skills that makes them able to handle their businesses
efficiently. These skills include being hardworking - diligent and dedicated to one's business
passion and has the sense of wanting to improve his skills and business; Self-confident -
believing in oneself, his capabilities of making right decisions and good strategy to operate his
business. This is crucial for entrepreneurs to be able to take risks in investments which is very
important in the business industry; Disciplined - in order to make good decisions and to focus on
one's business. One must always consider the welfare of the business; Committed- entrepreneurs
accept the meaning of being in the business industry and gladly takes all the responsibilities
regarding their businesses; and are committed to making their business successful and
improved; Adaptive - being adaptive to the changes in the environment is also a good
entrepreneur quality. This is because businesses have the consumer society as its core.
Whenever a change in the consumers' taste or the society's culture and trends, entrepreneur must
adjust his products and services to have a successful business in every season. Additionally,
entrepreneur must constantly change the concept of his provisions in order to keep grabbing
customers' interests; Creative - business industry is a warzone as many entrepreneurs run their
booming businesses, bombarded with the sense of competition. Hence, one must always create
ideas and strategies to improve one's business services and products in order to stay atop the
battle of entrepreneurship; Leader - an entrepreneur has the initiative to stir the direction for his
company, monitoring and manipulating every step for his business; and profit-oriented - an
entrepreneur has profit as the core reason as to why he entered entrepreneurship. Hence, he
picks the type of business that would generate income.
