“Sanctify a fast, call a solemn assembly. Gather the elders and all the inhabitants of
the land to the house of the Lord your God, and cry out to the Lord.” -Joel 1:14

The season of Lent is upon us. But this year, it’s different. We don’t need the
reminders about the darkness of the world or our own mortality. The last year has
been heavy enough with grief and fear.

Lent is a season of penitence and self-reflection, but it is also a season of intentionally working on
our relationship with God. This year, our worship theme for Lent is “Again and Again.” Through
scripture, prayer, art, and more, we will reflect on the ways that God loves us, God calls us, God
guides us, again, and again, and again. With so much changing around us, we will celebrate the
unchanging God.

The season of Lent is an invitation to be with God. As the Rev. Sarah Are says:
I like to imagine that each year, And with every step past that threshold,
God invites me to a party. I know that God is cheering me on.
God drops me a note that says, It’s the pride of a parent watching their child
“No gifts, casual dress. Come just as you are.” take their first step.
If I freeze, God is not disappointed.
If I fall, God is not mad.
I like to imagine that I am brave enough to go.
But if I trust the invitation,
I like to imagine that I decide that I am worth it.
If I move closer,
This was no pity invite,
I know, God celebrates.
There is no obligatory postage.
God wants me there.
Friends, you’ve got mail.
It’s an invitation to dust off your shoes,
So I get myself together,
To go deeper,
Smudged glasses, sensitive ego, wrinkled shirt,
To trust that you’re worth it,
and all.
To lose your keys and your faith,
I ring the doorbell a few minutes late on account
And then to find them both, along with your

I lost my keys twice trying to get out the door,
You are invited.
And I almost turn back to hide in my car,
We are invited.

tizers or small talk.
This invitation is for you.
But then God answers the door,
And God says, “You’re here!”

Friends, the invitation has been extended. God is waiting, ready to welcome you with open arms,
just as you are, with all the baggage you carry. And no matter how many times we turn away, God
invites us, again and again, for we are God’s beloved. May you accept the invitation this Lent.

Pastor Leigh 3
Dear Friends,
After nine years of service, we have decided to step down as co chairs of the
Community Dinner ministry. We are grateful for the support of the Session, the con-
gregation, and the wonderful volunteers who make this program successful.
We will serve as chairs until June 10, which is the day after the June meal, un-
less a new chair is in place before that time. Certainly, we will help to transition the
new person or persons into the role.
Please consider whether you are called to step into this role in our church and
community. You do not need to be a good cook to lead this ministry. Organizational
skills and time management are far more important to the job. If you would like
more information, please feel free to call or text us at 724.487.3675 (Barb's cell) or
724.991.1954 (Jim’s cell).
We will continue to support this important outreach with our prayers of sup-
port and our presence as volunteers.
Barb and Jim Kamerer
Barb and Jim Kamerer served 79 pasta dinners in Feb-
ruary. Tim Kennedy served 20 bagged lunches. All
meals are served takeout style from St. Andrews church.
