Week 9- Tourism Development and Planning

Individual Assignment:

Hello there. For this week's topic, please write and save your assignment in a Word document file
and upload it in our Google Classroom.

1. In the Basic Stages of Tourism Planning, explain what does “Assessment of Tourist Demand and
Supply means and why planning should start from this? (Minimum 6 sentences)

Answer:

Gathering information on the thing the way they are and on the potential available for desirable
growth. Recording of information and the development of statistics is, therefore, of utmost
importance. The important initial steps in evaluating a potential for tourism development lives in
determining present status. Planning should start from this because without a full study of the
attractions a country possesses, it is not possible to plan for future expansion. It is, therefore, of
fundamental importance that very careful assessment be made of all attractions- physical, cultural,
historical – that a country possesses.

2. Have you ever heard about the term “BegPacking”? What Is your opinion about this? Is it
something bad or good? (Minimum 6 sentences)

https://tourismteacher.com/what-is-begpacking/
Answer:
In my opinion BegPacking is a little bit insulting. BegPacking is irresponsible. But not all backpakers
because, I think some of them doing it because of desperation, what if some of them is get robbed or
lost so they do not have money and they need to find way home they missed their flight and they
spend all their money on that flight so, they do not have money for another plane ticket so, I do not
have problem for that. The problem is the people who came from other countries who have able
bodies who are healthy and young, and they beg for people to give money, so they continue travelling
when those people who work hard for the money to travel. For me BegPacking is something bad
because it is an irresponsible travel practice.
3.Choose 2 tourist attractions in the country: (1) being an example of poorly planned destination and
another (1) as a sample of a properly developed attraction. Be sure to explain both their strengths
and weakness. (Minimum 3 sentences for each)

Answer:

Marinduque is example poorly planned destination.

Strengths
The strength of Marinduque is that they are second most peaceful province in the Philippines
(Just next to Batanes). Mariduque have three commercial seaports, an international port, a domestic
airport, and lots of fish port. Lots of tourist sports/attractions such as great waterfalls, white sand
beaches, sand bar, caves, underground rivers, century-old houses/churches, sunken Japanese ships,
coves, mountain ranges, view decks, and wildlife sanctuary deal eco-tourism. Festival like Bila-bila
festival Gasang-gasang festival, Tuba festival, Seafood festival and of course the famous Mariones
festival. Very hospitable residents with their unique and one of a kind cultural like putong and
kalutang. And the Marinduque is the Butterfly Capital of the Philippines.

Weakness
The Weaknesses of Marinduque are too much politics in the province. Unstable power and
water supply thus no major industries in the province. Poor Health facilities /hospital. No Private
Hospitals serving the island province. Lack of infrastructure facilities to attract huge investments.
During peak Holiday season, going to Marinduque and going back to Lucena is a nightmare. Internet
Speed is very slow. Insufficient Farm to market roads and irrigation facilities.

Bohol as a sample of a properly developed attraction.

Strengths
The strength of Bohol is the unique & diverse natural terrestrial/ marine environmental
resources and ecological heritage, winner of c lean and green program competitions. Rich and unique
historical heritage. Diverse tourism products and availability of tourism services. Friendly and
hospitable people and good levels of community involvement. Vast agricultural lands and good
marine resources to support tourism establishments/activities. Presence of government funded or
supported tourism development programs (mainly infrastructure sector projects). Existence of
protected areas and strong LGU support in the Chocolate Hills areas. Good beaches and some
excellent island settings. Fully functional land, air, and water access systems; Operating ports/airport
at present to serve as primary gateways to the island province; Transport infrastructure is in generally
satisfactory condition; The presence of large ships/ROROs/ ferries from Manila and Cebu are boosts
to Further tourism growth. Internationally recognized brand/image for the province. Excellent marine
and freshwater resources; and Family oriented and wholesome destinations.

Weakness
The weaknesses of Bohol are some towns, less than satisfactory levels of power, water,
transportation, communications, and tourism services in some towns, for some inland areas generally
poor road conditions for some inland areas. Comparatively small number of resorts/hotels that can
compare favorably with quality resorts/hotels in other provinces; limited accommodations/restrooms in
the Chocolate Hills/Carmen/Bilar/Loboc areas. Many town-based tourism establishments need
physical upgrading; some architectural designs do not blend well with the environment. Limited
marketing capability; inadequate promotional materials; no sustaining come on. No international
brand name hotels/resorts are in operation. Need to upgrade provincial, city and municipal LGU
capabilities to fully plan and manage tourism assets and potentials. Human resources engaged in
tourism services still have rather limited knowledge and skills. Limited community involvement for
some areas. Land availability and land ownership structures and status may be a concern for future
tourism investment.

4. Write an essay on how Covid 19 could be integrated in transforming the future of tourism through
its planning and development. (Minimum 300 words)

Answer:

As we transition to the “rebound” phase of the Covid-19 global pandemic, the tourism industry
is facing the question. What will be the “new normal” look like, and what is our “re-opening” strategy?
Tourism offers livelihoods for hundreds of thousands of human beings and lets in billions greater to
appreciate their very own and one -of-a-kind cultures, in addition to the herbal world . Tourism is one
of the sectors most stricken by the COVID -19 pandemic, impacting economies, livelihoods, public
offerings, and possibilities on all continents . While sustaining the livelihoods depending on the quarter
should be a priority, rebuilding tourism is also a possibility for transformation with a focus on
leveraging its effect on locations visited and constructing greater resilient communities and
corporations thru innovation, digitalization, sustainability, and partnerships.
Efforts have been undertaken to consolidate the gains already made and adopt a more strategic and
innovative approach in exploring new opportunities to pursue inclusive growth which will be done by
expanding community participation across the full range of facilities and services planned in the
tourism circuits and development areas. By the help of National Tourism Development plan provided
for by Republic Act 9593 of Tourism Act of 2009 , the National Tourism Development Plan 2016 -2022
is an evolution from its predecessor or covering period 2011 -2016.
The combined effort comes at a time when several destinations around the world begin to ease
restrictions on travel and mobility and the tourism sector is getting ready to resume its activity with the
lessons learned from the pandemic.
