Renowned firms were roped in for making of large scale national and international
orders and the Central Government had already placed order with AMTZ for supply of
3500 ventilators

Visakhapatnam: The Andhra Pradesh Medtech Zone Ltd. (AMTZ) has put in place all the
necessary laboratory infrastructure for readiness of labs for testing ventilators
and Corona diagnostic kits with the State government’s assistance of Rs.30 crore.

According to Special Chief Secretaries-Rajat Bhargava (Industries and Commerce) and

Poonam Malakondaiah (Animal Husbandry and Fisheries), under assistance from
international agencies, the required manufacturing infrastructure along with
technology for manufacturing of ventilators and diagnostics kits has also been put
in place. The production of thermal scanners has already started.

Renowned firms were roped in for making of large scale national and international
orders and the Central Government had already placed order with AMTZ for supply of
3500 ventilators.

AMTZ would have the capacity to make about 3000 ventilators in April and 6000
ventilators every month from the month of May this year. Also, Corona diagnostic
kits would be made at the capacity of 10,000 kits a week, reaching about 25,000
kits a week by May.

These are based on plant and machinery already moving into Visakhapatnam and might
increase with the demand.

Pollution Control Certificates for white category is only needed for medical
equipment which are non-chemical based products which are supported within 48 hours
of receipt of plant and machinery. Drug Controller General had exempted all
manufacturing approvals valid across the country, needed for ventilators etc., due
to crises. ICMR had approved the kits that would be manufactured at AMTZ here, they
said.

Medical equipment manufacturing requires more than 700 to 2,000 parts which come
from many locations including international sources. For ventilators which include
turbines, blenders, humidifiers, compressors etc., the parts cannot be made by any
medical equipment manufacturer and they are taken from suppliers of allied sectors.

Medical equipment manufacturing anywhere in India including AMTZ includes

technology integration, assembly, quality control, testing and validation. This
production would be in operation at AMTZ for kits from April 5 and for ventilators
from April 15.

AMTZ would be ready to supply and meet targets of ventilators and kits for national
and international markets, the officials said in Amaravati on Saturda
