1 Equipment Overview
1.1 Introduction to the FRX Radio Equipment
The Fujitsu FRX-3E series digital radio family (FRX-3E family) is IP/SDH
high capacity microwave radio system designed for trunk / spur / access /
nodal / mobile backhaul transmission applications.
The FRX-3E family operates in the radio frequency bands of 4/5/U6/11 GHz
with 40 MHz RF channel spacing and 4/L6/U6/7/8/13 GHz with 30 MHz RF
channel spacing (28/29/29.65/30 MHz). The equipment is fully solid state
and designed to meet latest ETSI and R&TTE standards, ITU-T and ITU-R
Recommendations for long haul and high capacity digital microwave radio
systems.
The modulation scheme used is 64/128QAM for STM-1 interface or
selectable fixed modulation scheme of QPSK/8/16/32/64/128/256/512QAM
for Native IP interface and FEC is Low Density Parity Check type (LDPC).
The FRX-3E can be used in various types of IP/SDH networks such as ring,
media diversity or linear configurations, and various transmission path
conditions such as over water, over mountains, inter or intra city routes.
The FRX-3E accepts mixed ACCP/ACAP/CCDP operation with SD & TSD
applying single or dual RF band and single or double terminal configuration
having maximum sixteen (16) complete systems per rack.
Various types of optional auxiliary signal transmission functions such as
2.048 Mbit/s wayside traffic, 10/100BASE-TX Fast Ethernet (FE) and 64
kbit/s digital service channels are available.
Note-1*: STM-1 optical interface with MSP is not available for this FRX-3E SNMP-SV equipment.

NMS of FRX-3E is designed on SNMP and HTTP (Hyper Text Transfer Protocol).
SV card, main controller installed in the FRX-3E, is composed both an SNMP
embedded agent and a web server. These facilities provide integrated NMS
environment among FRX-3E and various type of equipment such as MUX, ADM,
routers and another vender’s radio equipment thanks to SNMP, and good
accessibility by HTTP which is not depend on management platform. SV card has
two (2) Ethernet port and two (2) DCC (Data Communication Channel) terminations
from radio/line sides as a connection port for NMS.
Figure 3.13 shows block diagram of the NMS facilities on the SV card.

Insertion loss of Loss Equalized RF branching network, BRU loss is calculated below;
BRU loss = Transmit side loss (Reference A’ to Reference C’) +
Receive side loss (Reference C to Reference A)
For detailed insertion loss value, please refer to Table 8-3.
Note-1: Above insertion loss calculation is based on the loss equalized RF branching network model in
accordance with Figures of Appendix-A. Therefore in case that not loss equalized RF branching network
or not Fujitsu recommended RF channel allocation rule is applied, insertion loss should be calculated
individually. If insertion loss is critical for system design calculation, please contact Fujitsu technical staff.
Note-2: When the innermost RF channels are allocated on customer’s request, BEF should be added only
for the innermost RF channel. In this case, only insertion loss for innermost RF channels will be add to
BEF loss, 1 dB/BEF. For detailed No. of BEFs, refer to Table 8-1.
Note-3: Above insertion loss is typical value for sum of TX and Rx side. For guaranteed value add 1 dB.

2.2 RFCOH
The FRX-3E organizes the Radio Frame for the transmission between the
two working Transcwivwe and modem units (TRMD) across a radio hop. The
Radio Frame is composed of the STM-1 signal and Radio Frame
Complementary Overhead (RFCOH).
Note-*: RSC* (Radio Service Channel, 108 bits = 864 kb/s ) is composed of
BSCS, RUC, unused bits and stuff bits to be transmitted duplicated by the
Main 1 and Protection channel only.

Switching Section
The switching section of Radio Protection Switch (RPS) is activated on a hop
basis , therefore protection switching is activated between stations despite of
terminal station, repeater station and back-to-back terminal station.
Figure 4.2 shows the relationship between terminals and a repeater for the
RPS switching section.
OW/UC/WS Signal
The Radio Protection Switching of Orderwire, User Channel on SOH and
Wayside traffic on SOH/RFCOH is linked to the operation of STM-1 main
signal.
Human Machine Interface (HMI)
Supervising of switching status and manual switch operation are carried out
through Web-based local craft terminal, Web LT. There is no display/ control
panel for RPS equipped on the FRX-3E itself.
The Web LT can supervise/control all FRX-3E equipment (NE = Network
Element) within a Digital Communication Channel (DCC) group to which the
local terminal is connected. The Web LT and SNMP manager can manage
all FRX-3E equipment together with other communication equipment.
SW (Switching device in unipolar level)
The SW is a part of the baseband interface (BB INTF) unit. This switch has
the manual/automatic DADEing (Differential Automatic time Delay
Equalization) function between protection and any of main channels and
performs the hitless (errorless) switching on fade.
Detailed SW information is as follows;
Signal level : 4 streams of 38.88 Mb/s, Unipolar stage
Direction : Uni-directional switch (USW) on fade
Bi-Directional switch (BSW) on equipment failure

Interface specification
FRX-3E system can freely allocate a logical channel number (GP1-Prot, GP1-M1,GP1- M2 etc)
onto a physical TRMD & BB-INTF slot number.
With the FSA feature, a logical channel number is configurable onto a physical slot number, and
the FSA feature brings easy field operation to meet any different RF channel arrangement.
Key Benefits
(1) Easy and Simple Channel identification
Slot#1 = RF CH1 = M1
Slot#2 = RF CH4 = M4
Slot#3 = RF CH3 = M3
Slot#4 = RF CH2 = M2
Flexible split
Slot#1~10 Slot#11~16
(3) Larger Configuration more than 7+1 (Up to 15+1) system in a single RPS group
GP1 RPS
Flexible Slot 15+1 (16+0)
Allocation (FSA) Config
Slot#1~16
(4) A Main Channel can be allocated to a Protection slot (Slot#1 in GP1 / Slot#9 in GP2) in order
to configure a N+0 configuration
(5) Empty slot configuration between channels can be available. (Refer to 4.2 as an example)

* Slot#9 can be used for GP2-Prot in order to keep the running allocation when non-FSA SV Firmware is upgraded to FSA SV firmware.
[SV Firmware version: Non-FSA function in V7.0 or V7.1, FSA function in V7.2 or later]
** No need License Key to activate FSA function. Only SV DT/GP2 License is required to use GP2 slots in FSA mode.
