Tom and his mum have had a very busy day. They cleaned the house
together this morning. His mum cleaned the windows and Tom used the
vacuum cleaner to clean the floor. Then Tom helped his mum make
some vegetable soup for lunch. But after that the cooker was a mess,
so Tom cleaned it. His mum made a big chocolate cake because it’s
Tom’s sister’s birthday tomorrow. She’ll be ten.
In the afternoon, Tom’s mum sat down and made him a special costume made of cotton
and rubber. This is because Tom is in the musical at school. She used her new sewing
machine, which she bought last week, to make it. But there was a problem with the
sewing machine and it doesn’t work now! When she was making the costume, Tom
