Now, we would like to explain


about green computing.

First I would like to define


about what is the green
computing.

Green computing is the


behavior of using computing
resources efficiently, by
maximizing energy, extending
hardware life, minimizing
paper usage, and several
other technical matters. The
main targets of green
computing are the earth,
humans and profits. The
purpose of green computing
is to reduce the use of
hazardous materials.

Green computing was


sparked by the US
Environmental Protection
Agency which launched the
Energy Star program in 1992.
Energy star is a program that
labels energy efficiency in
environmentally friendly and
energy-efficient computer
hardware and resources.
Basically, the efficient use of
computers is green
computing.
Secondly, I will explain about
the approach taken in the
concept of green computing.

There are 4 approaches:

1. Green use.

Minimize the electricity


consumption of computer
devices in an environmentally
friendly way

2. Green disposal.

Re-create existing
computers / recycle
electronic devices that are
not used.

3. Green design.

Designing energy-efficient
computers, servers, printers,
projectors and other digital
devices.

4. Green Manufactur.

Minimize waste during the


computer manufacturing
process and reduce the
impact on the environment

There are three categories to


be "green" in the IT world,
namely:

1. Increase energy efficiency


by reducing carbon footprint

2. Reducing the use of


electronic goods
3. Make changes to lifestyles
with low impact on the
environment

Examples of green computing


strategies that can be
implemented are using
virtualization to reduce the
number of servers, using
virtualization to reduce the
power and disposal
requirements of desktops,
replacing systems based on
paper and online
communication systems.

Third I will explain what

several ways as IT and


computer users to support

green computing and what

are the benefits of green

computing.

Ways to support green

computing:

1. Don't leave the computer


running in the middle of the
night and holidays

2. Reducing the level of


screen light can increase CRT
(cathode ray tube)

3. Use the printer to print two


sides of the document

Benefits of Green
Computing :

1. Save power and save


electricity

2. prolong the life of


computer equipment

3. reduce carbon dioxide


emissions

4. requires a little hardware

5. Paper savings

6. Avoid the electricity crisis

7. Take care of the
environment so that it
becomes better

8. Environment friendly

The conclusion is green


Computing is not only a new
trend; it is a technology of
itself. The important key to
remember is that while all of
these technologies are
beneficial in some way, the
most beneficial to existing
corporations are those that
directly affect their processes
and IT infrastructures.
Reducing the number of
servers using virtualization is
a great way to consolidate
but in order to get the
maximum benefit the
corporation must reorganize
its datacenter infrastructure
and in addition, rethink
processes and procedures
that utilize these resources
from the user’s stand point.
