TCS
TCS controls traction
within the friction limit ,
between the tyre
and the road surface,
by automatic restriction
of excessive engine power
during acceleration.
RAKESH CHANDER SAINI 3
TCS
TCS incorporates two functions :
Brake TCS - Prevents the driving wheels from spinnining
in low friction conditions , by sending brake
signals to the modulator unit , resulting in
improved tyre grip performance.
Engine TCS - Prevents the driving wheels from spinning
by detecting driving wheel spin during
acceleration and cornering and sending
torque down signal to ECM/PCM ,resulting
in improved tyre grip

Modulator Unit TCS
The circulating type modulator unit consists of :
One inlet solenoid valve for each wheel
One outlet solenoid valve for each wheel
One TCS NO valve for each front wheel
One TCS NC valve for each front wheel
Reservoir pump
Reservoir motor
Damping chamber

ABS CONTROL
When the wheel speed drops sharply below the vehicle
speed the outlet valve opens momentarily to reduce the
caliper pressure.
As the wheel speed is restored, the inlet valve opens
momentarily to increase the caliper pressure.

TCS CONTROL
When the Front wheel speed rises sharply above the vehicle speed,
the TCS NC valve opens, TCS NO valve closes and the pump motor
starts to intensify the front caliper pressure
When the wheel speed drops, the front inlet valve closes momentarily
to retain the front caliper fluid pressure.
When the speed drops further, the front outlet valve opens
momentarily to reduce the front caliper pressure.

Self Diagnosis
- Initial Diagnosis :
Done right after the engine starts and until ABS & TCS
indicators go off.

Done right after the initial diagnosis and until ignition
switch is turned off.

Problem RAKESH CHANDER SAINI 21
TCS
ABS / TCS indicator
- If the system is OK, the ABS and TCS indicators come on for
two seconds after ignition switch is turned ON (II) and then
goes off.
- If the ABS/TCS control unit detects a problem the indicator
comes on
- The indicator may come on under following conditions :
- The vehicle goes into a spin
- The ABS or TCS continues to operate for a long time
- The vehicle is subjected to an electrical signal disturbance.
RAKESH CHANDER SAINI 22
TCS
TCS activation indicator
- If the system is OK, the indicator comes on for two seconds
after ignition switch is turned ON (II) and then goes off..
- The indicator comes on if the TCS OFF button is pressed
after the ignition switch is turned ON(II)
- The indicator flashes while the TCS system is active
