Before I came to this country I couldn’t do many things in English. For example, I
couldn’t follow a conversation if too many people were talking at the same time. I
couldn’t express what I wanted to say. I couldn’t pronounce words properly. I
remember one occasion at a party, I couldn’t understand a word. I felt so
uncomfortable. Finally, my aunt came to pick me up, and I was able to leave the party.

Today I can understand much better. I can expr Wess my opinions and I can have a
conversation in English. I am taking classes at the adult center. My teacher is very
good. explain things well, and she always gives us the chance to talk a lot in class. I
can do a lot now, and I think in a few more months I can do even more. I cannot wait
until the day I am completely bilingual.

When I was a child, I couldn’t do a lot of things. For example, I couldn’t wake up on my own,
I couldn’t cook, I couldn’t go alone to my school, I couldn’t wash my clothes, I couldn’t
organize my room, I couldn’t take the bus, I couldn’t cross the street, I couldn’t go out, I
couldn’t cut out paper, I couldn’t be serious at important moments, I couldn’t understand a
lot of things, I couldn’t divide, I couldn’t speak in public, I couldn’t speak in English, I couldn’t
ride a bike, I couldn’t iron my clothes, I couldn’t work, I couldn’t move in the city, I couldn’t
get drunk, I couldn’t buy my things with my money, I couldn’t watch a horror movie, I couldn’t
sleep too late.
Nowadays, I am a very responsible teen, because trough the time I have learned to do a lot
of things. For example, I can wake up on my own, I can cook perfectly, I can go alone to the
university, I can do my things alone, I can wash my clothes, I can organize my apartment, I
can take a taxi, I can take the bus, I can cross the street, I can go out with my friends, I can’t
cut out paper, I can’t be serious at important moments, I can understand more things, I can
divide, I can calculate derivatives, integrals and limits, I can speak in public, I can speak in
English, I can speak a little French, I can ride a bike, I can’t iron my clothes, I can work, I can
move in the city, I can get drunk, I can buy my things with my money, I can watch any movie,
I can sleep too late and I can wake up too early.
