Introduction
Introduce topic Negative impacts of cybercrime in India.
Credibility 1. According to Iqbal & Beigh (2017), India are more
susceptible to cyberattacks due to their “Digital India”
paradigm; where important and sensitive data are
stored on the cloud.
2. From January until June of 2017, the cybercrime rate
in India is one cybercrime after every 10 minutes
(Chethan, 2017).
Background of topic In this era of technology, the criminals utilize the convenience
and anonymity of Internet to commit cybercrimes.
Cybercrime, as defined by Merriam-Webster dictionary,
means criminal activity committed using a computer
especially to illegally access, transmit, or manipulate data.
Central Idea There are several negative impacts of cybercrimes to the
society.
Body
(Describing chart[s] and/or graph[s])
Description of data (Chart 1. Chart 1 shows the number of spamming bots by
1) country.
2. China has the highest number of spamming bots which
is a shocking 1858203.
3. USA followed closely with 1083041 and India at the
third place, with a total of 992970.
Analysis of data (Chart 1) 4. Spam bots are higher in countries with most people on
the Internet such as China and USA.
5. In India, however, the spam bots are growing in
number because of the government’s digitization effort
which lead to many new Internet users that are not
taking measures against infection of malware that turn
their devices into spam-spewing zombies.
Description of data (Chart 1. Chart 2 portrays the percentage of SMBs experiencing
2) cybersecurity breaches in the past 3 years by country.
2. SMBs in India have the highest percentage of
experiencing cybersecurity breaches in the past 3
years with 75%.
3. The smallest percentage belong to Japan with only
29%.
Analysis of data (Chart 2) 4. Compared to large companies with better resources
and knowledges, SMBs are more vulnerable and a
series of cyberattacks could be fatal to them
5. SMBs often do not even realize they no longer have
absolute control over their sensitive data such as
intellectual property (IP) and personal information until
it is too late.
Description of data (Chart 1. The chart breaks down the cybercrime arrests by age
3) group in 2013, to a range of age from 0 to 60 years
and above.
2. The highest arrests fall on the age group of 18 to 30
years old with a total of 1638 arrests made from 3301.
3. The smallest number of arrests are 18 which belong to
the age group of 60 years and above.
Analysis of data (Chart 3) 4. At this age, the teenagers especially are prone to peer
pressure and society expectation to look and appear
cool.
5. The mysterious portrayal of hackers and
cybercriminals on the Internet and TV may appear
appealing to them, hence the reason why they decide
to try.
Conclusion
Conclusion To sum up, cybercrimes impacted negatively on the society
such as information theft, huge economic loss and influenced
youngsters to commit crime. The graphs included portray
clearly how cybercrimes are affecting the society.
Recommendation From the data and analysis made, a recommendation that is
worth pondering over is for government to make use of the
advancing technology to focus on the cybersecurity effort as
well as to provide funding for establishment of a specialized
cyber team.
