A Comparison of Maximum Residue Levels (MRLs) for Pesticides Used on Sweet Cherries to Export Markets
March 12, 2020
CURRENT SITUATION: Paci c Northwest sweet cherry exporters are concerned with meeting international
pesticide regulatory standards for crop protection chemicals. The list of chemicals and country-speci c MRLs
continues to change. The table below summarizes the current understanding of the Northwest Horticultural
Council (NHC) concerning MRLs for certain insecticides and fungicides in the top markets for Paci c
Northwest sweet cherries. The values in red have been changed within the last two weeks.
This is only intended to be an initial guide to the export trade in certain deciduous tree fruits. Tariff and
non-tariff measures can change with great speed and frequency. Commercially important information, such
as MRLs, should be rechecked and veri ed with knowledgeable parties in the country of interest prior to sales
or shipment.
The NHC assumes no responsibility for any errors or omissions incurred in preparing and publishing this
industry bulletin. Any errors or omissions noted, or questions or advice related to the bulletin should be
directed to the contacts below, including information regarding the use of chemicals not on this list.
CONTACT: For additional information contact the Northwest Horticultural Council at 509-453-3193.
Comparison of Maximum Residue Levels for Pesticides Used on Cherries
a – France has banned the use of dimethoate, including use on cherries. See Country Alert for more information.
d – Codex
e – Expires 12/31/2021
f – Expires 12/31/2021. Registrant has not committed to submitting import tolerance.
g – Expressed as carbendazim residue, includes benomyl and thiophanate methyl.
h – Approved for postharvest use as a food additive. Food additive tolerance is equivalent to the preharvest use tolerance. Special
labeling requirements may apply. Check with importer for details.
j – tolerance included as total dithiocarbamates
m – MRL residual limits are being revoked. The three-year phase-out process will end December 2021 at which point the MRL residual
limit will default to 0.1 ppm.
t – Temporary
ucg – unde ned crop group
