Information to Residents for Exemption of Toll for Auto-Rickshaw /
Car belonging to Bonafide Local Residents living along Rajiv Gandhi Salai
As you may be aware, the Rajiv Gandhi Salai is an important land mark of Chennai City, along which
several leading IT and BPO Companies are situated. The prestigious TIDEL and SIPCOT Parks,
housing a number of IT / ITES Companies and SEZs are also situated along this Corridor.
In view of the above, Government of Tamil Nadu has decided to develop the Rajiv Gandhi Salai into
a world class facility and position it as the ‘Bay Area’ of India and has entrusted the implementation of
the Project to ITEL, an SPV of TNRDC.
1. Toll shall be collected as directed by the norms set by the Government from all vehicles
except those exempted as per G.O Ms.No.45, Highways Department, dated 23.02.2005
2. Exemption is granted for bonafide local residents from paying toll only for cars owned for
personal use and auto rickshaws owned by people who are regularly residing along the Rajiv
Gandhi Salai.
3. Applicants for exemption must apply in prescribed application form.
4. They shall be required to fill in the application form with photocopies of the proof of residence
and vehicle ownership (as indicated in the application form). At the time of submission of
application, originals should be produced for verification.
5. The exemption is given to the vehicles and not to individuals. The exempted vehicles must
be registered only in the name of the head of the family or its members.
6. In case the bonafide resident travels in vehicles other than those exempted, toll has to be
paid.
7. It is also clarified that commercial vehicles like Taxi, Light Commercial Vehicles, Trucks,
Buses, Lorries etc, even if owned by local residents, are not exempted from paying toll
8. The application along with attachments as required shall be handed over at the Seevaram
Toll Plaza of IT Expressway Limited.
9. ITEL shall arrange for issuance of the Local Resident Passes upon eligibility of the applicant.
Local Resident Passes will be given as Smart Card for Toll Free movement in the Corridor.
10. A Non-refundable administrative Fee of Rs.100 per annum shall be payable in cash for
Processing and issuance of the Local Resident Pass.
11. In case the Local Resident Pass is lost or misplaced, the resident shall inform the loss to
nearest Police Station in writing, ITEL shall replace the same upon payment of cost of the
local Resident Pass and replacement fee as applicable at that time.
12. For applicants who are submitting residence proof other than Ration Card or Voter id or
Passport temporary pass will be issued subject to condition that Ration Card or Voter ID or
Passport has to be transferred to the address along Rajiv Gandhi Salai / Project Road within
one year from the date of issue, failing which the pass will be cancelled
