PHPA for Drilling Professionals

PHPA is a specially treated high molecular weight polymer used in water-based drilling fluids as a viscosifying agent, shale and bore-hole stabilizer, encapsulator, bentonite extender, and to assist with fluid loss control. It has a white granular powder appearance, is anionic in nature, and has a typical solid content above 88% and insoluble content below 0.2%. PHPA can be applied in freshwater, seawater, and brine systems to provide cuttings encapsulation, shale inhibition, flocculation of drilled solids, and viscosity. It is packaged in paper sacks weighing 25kg or 50lbs and should be stored in dry, well-ventilated areas away

PRODUCT BULLETIN

PHPA
PHPA is a specially treated high molecular weight Partially Hydrolyzed Polyacrylamide polymer for all
water-base drilling fluids. It functions as viscosifying agent, shale and bore-hole stabilizer, encapsulator,
bentonite extender, flocculation agent and assist with fluid loss control.

Typical Physical Properties

Appearance White granular powder

Ionic nature Anionic
Solid content, % 88.0 min
Insoluble content, % 0.20 max
Residue monomer, % 0.15 max
Hydrolysis, % 23 - 30
Molecular weight * 2 million - 35 million
* Various range of molecular weight available upon customer's requirement.

Application
PHPA is applicable in freshwater, seawater, saturated saltwater mud, KCl and solids free brine systems.
It provides cuttings encapsulation, shale filming/inhibition, flocculation of drilled solids, viscosity and
lubricity.

Recommended Handling
All personnel handling this material must handle it as an industrial chemical, wearing protective
equipment and observing the precautions as described in the Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS).
