Effective Use of Teaching Aids in Class

The document is a field study report from a student teacher evaluating their observation of a lesson on triangle midline theorems. It includes a form for documenting the observation, analyzing the teacher's use of materials, reflecting on the lesson, and including photos of the materials used. The student teacher observed a traditional lecture using a textbook and chalkboard. They felt the materials were appropriate given their accessibility, but suggested providing handouts to engage students more actively. Overall, the traditional materials were deemed effective for conveying concepts, though additional visual aids could improve understanding.

1. The lesson is about “Triangle Midline Theorem and Other Proportionality

Theorems”.
2. The teacher’s use of visual aids/ materials/ learning resources is a traditional
one. She used board and chalk with the aid of a Math textbook to convey
learning. she evaluates learning through paper-pencil/pen test.
3. Based on my observation, the teacher uses the learning resources through reading
theorems from the textbook and writing it on the board to be more clear to the
learners. then she drew some concrete illustrations in relation to the theorems.
She also gave hands-on exercises like board-works.
4. The learners had varied responses. Some are excited while some says “boring”.
This indicates that some like and dislike the topic. However, overall, the class
showed eagerness thus leading to essential understanding.
5. On the other hand, their non-verbal responses also portrayed various
implications. But, most of the class showed eagerness to the topic.

My
Analysis
What do you think prompted the teacher to choose the materials/ learning resources that
he/she used?

For me, I think, what prompted the teacher to choose the materials/ learning

resources that she used is the fact that the materials used are very accessible. Those

materials are already available in the classroom. The teacher need not to sleep late

at night preparing visual aids for her students. Also, these materials are the

basic teaching resources a teacher should have.

What difficulties, if any, did the teacher experience? How can this be managed?

I think, the only difficulty is how the teacher portray or write the words on

the board in order to be visible in all part of the room. I hear some student say,

“Ma’am put it on the right side, I can’t see it here.” The teacher must consider the

right angle in order that what she wrote on the board will be visible to the class.in

this manner, more learning is likely to happen.

Over-all, were the learning resources/materials used effectively? Why?

Over-all, the learning resources/materials used is indeed effective even

though it is the traditional one. The students are able to copy what the teacher had

presented. They are also able to grasp and understand the topic presented. One

reason is that clear illustrations made the hard concept easy. Different examples

presented board, also add to the effectiveness of its use.

My
Reflections
1. Put yourself in the place of the teacher. What would you do similarly and what would you

do differently if you would teach the same lesson to the same group of students? Why?

If I were the teacher, I will also use the materials she had used during my

observation.it is because these materials are readily available in every classroom. On

the other hand, I also want to add some ways or things to be used during teaching.

In teaching the same lesson, I will provide fact sheets to the students. In this way,

they will no longer copy what I had presented because I already provided them.

Thus they will be more focused on the discussion. Also, I will provide answer sheets

or activity sheets. Instead of teaching them directly, I want them to explore the topic

through doing the activity in the activity sheet that I had given. This will make

the class more interactive and this approach is the new approach encouraged by

DepEd as part of the K-12 program. And, their topic needed various illustrations.

Instead of drawing it on the board, I will prepare it on a Manila Paper in order that

the drawings will be more accurate and clear to learners.

My Portfolio

Include here pictures/illustration of the materials used by the teacher. Put

your comments/annotations about what you observed.

The use of chalk and board, textbooks, paper and pen are the basic are the basic and

most common way of teaching. It requires les preparation and less hassle. It is also very

accessible in the sense that it is already available. However, to engage students to an

interactive state of learning, the teacher should devise different strategies. One thing is the

appropriate use of learning materials.
