Circuit Switched Kpi: Document

The document discusses key performance indicators (KPIs) for circuit switched and GPRS networks. It provides an overview of important KPIs related to accessibility, retainability, integrity, intersystem operability, and traffic levels. It also outlines steps for analyzing KPI reports at the BSC level to identify problems in specific BSCs or cells and possible reasons for KPIs not meeting targets, such as interference, congestion, or hardware issues.

Network Performance Check through BO Reports

Step 1.

First, We should check network KPIs for NBH ( hour resolution)

Step 2

we should generate KPIs report for at BSC Level on hourly basis for whole day

A- In which BSCs those KPIs are not meeting the trend

B- That KPIs bad performance is through out the day or only at certain time

Step3.

we should generate the “BSC Overview” report to see all KPIs with reasons

to “Other reasons”, this is mostly due to some problems in the network after “BSC”.

problem could be either in Ater transmission media, insufficient Ater capacity or insufficient TRAU devices

define problem area bsc or cells

Step4.

1 If we able to judge reasons for any KPI on BSC level now we able to concentrate on cell level in that we have

A- wise BBH

B- general stats

2 For absolute drops we need to concentrate on General stats in particular hour , help to find reasons for BAD KP

BAD KPIS is in particular few cells in BSC is high or abnormal with other cells, need to check reasons for that
and try to optimize those cells because absolute value make big difference in BSC level

If it is distributed over all cells in BSC with particular abnormal reasons reflected here , we need to concentrate

NOTE: Resolution may be whole day or PARTICULAR hour when KPI’s were bad.

Possible Reasons for KPIs not Meeting target values

1 Low Random Access Success Rate

– Too High Timing Advance

– Bad BSIC planning
– Interference (internal and external)

3 TCH congestion & TCH Blocking

– Cells are down

– HW problems
– Missing Neighbour Cell Definitions
– Too few TCH resources defined (increasing traffic demand)

2 SDCCH congestion & SDCCH Blocking

– LA border cells
– To many LU (Periodic Registrations)
– High SMS traffic
– Too few SDCCH resources defined (increasing traffic demand)
– Random accesses that allocate many SDCCHs

4 Reason for TCH & SDCCH Dropped Connections

– Bad Coverage
– Low Signal Strength
– Link Budget
– Sudden Drop (elevators, tunnels etc.)

Congestion on TCH
