It is
a trick twist of ideas that lead to this conclusion & while there is truth there, there is also error, as well as
comments are taken the wrong way to mean something that was not the intention of the writer when viewed
against the rest of the information & other quotes.
In Heaven
COL 72.2 “This was why God did not at once destroy Satan. Had He done so, the holy angels would
not have perceived the justice and love of God. A doubt of God's goodness would have been as evil seed
that would yield the bitter fruit of sin and woe. Therefore the author of evil was spared, fully to develop
his character. Through long ages God has borne the anguish of beholding the work of evil, ....”
God COULD have destroyed Satan at that time, but there was a very logical, not logistical, reason why
he did not.
1SG 17.2 & 3 “.... it was decided that Satan should be expelled from heaven, and that the angels, all who
joined with Satan in the rebellion, should be turned out with him. Then there was war in heaven. Angels
were engaged in the battle; Satan wished to conquer the Son of God, and those who were submissive to
his will. But the good and true angels prevailed, and Satan, with his followers, was driven from heaven.
....Satan was shut out of heaven, .... Then he repented and wished to be reinstated again in heaven.”
Satan & the rebellious angels were expelled from heaven, they did not leave of their own accord, nor
because of the glory of the father & neither could they return of their own accord. Satan became the
antagonist of God, an apostate, and was forcefully excluded from heaven.
Job
RH, June 19, 1900 par. 3 “Satan makes a continual effort to ruin the souls that God is seeking to save.
By his masterly inventions and crooked deceptions he seeks to confuse men's minds in regard to the way,
the truth, and the life. Under his direction men have inflicted untold pain and misery on their fellow men.
But they have never been able to harm the soul.”
Satan cannot destroy them in any other way unless given special permission. Even Job’s earthly life was
not given into his hands. This permission given to Satan upon which he could act against Job was, it
appears, to be a once only test for Job and other earthly inhabitants, as no other account like this is
recorded either in the Bible or SOP.
RH, June 19, 1900 par. 5 “.... If they [wicked people who are Satan’s followers] can not rule, they seek
to ruin. A spirit of exasperation, of revenge and hatred, works in the children of disobedience, as it worked
in the first great rebel. He imbues his followers with every species of malignity against those who can not
be induced to join his ranks. Gaping prisons are open before them. They are threatened with the chain-gang
and the stocks. Thus men treat those who worship God according to the dictates of their own conscience.
Have they forgotten that as they judge and punish, so they will be judged and punished?”
The Antediluvians
Gen 6:7 “And the LORD said, I will destroy man whom I have created ....”
Gen 6:13 “And God said unto Noah, The end of all flesh is come before me; for the earth is filled with
violence through them; and, behold, I will destroy them with the earth.”
Gen 7:4 “ For yet seven days, and I will cause it to rain upon the earth forty days and forty nights; and
every living substance that I have made will I destroy from off the face of the earth.”
PP 92.2 “.... While building the ark he was to preach that God would bring a flood of water upon
the earth to destroy the wicked. Those who would believe the message, and would prepare for that event
by repentance and reformation, should find pardon and be saved.”
PP 95.3, 96.1, 97.2, 98.2, 99.2 & 3, 100.3 & 101.1 “.... professed to be worshippers of God. ....they
finally declared that the divine law was no longer in force; that IT WAS CONTRARY TO THE
CHARACTER OF GOD TO PUNISH TRANSGRESSION; .... Such an event as the destruction of
the world BY THE GOD who made it, and the punishment of the beings He has created, will never
take place. .... Had the antediluvians believed the warning, and repented of their evil deeds, the Lord
would have turned aside His wrath, .... Satan will have full control of those who have rejected mercy.
They will endeavor to destroy God's people; but as Noah was shut into the ark, so the righteous will be
shielded by divine power. Their splendid buildings, and the beautiful gardens and groves where they had
placed their idols, were destroyed by lightning from heaven, and the ruins were scattered far and wide.
The altars on which human sacrifices had been offered were torn down, and the worshipers were made to
tremble at the power of the living God, and to know that it was their corruption and idolatry which had
called down their destruction. .... The terror of man and beast was beyond description. And even Satan
himself, who was compelled to be amid the warring elements, feared for his own existence. He had
delighted to control so powerful a race, .... He now uttered imprecations against God, charging Him with
injustice and cruelty. .... So when God's judgments shall fall upon the earth before its deluge by fire,
.... Love, no less than justice, demanded that God's judgments should put a check on sin. The avenging
waters swept over the last retreat, and the despisers of God perished in the black depths. "By the word
of God .... the world that then was, being overflowed with water, perished: but the heavens and the earth,
which are now, by the same word are kept in store, reserved unto fire against the day of judgment and
perdition of ungodly men." 2 Peter 3:5-7. .... The earth will again be swept by the desolating wrath of
God, and sin and sinners will be destroyed.”
There is no evidence here that these judgements were the result of God’s glory resting upon the wicked
Antediluvians. Satan does not destroy his own - this is shown by his actions after the 1000 years. God was
"charged" "with injustice" by Satan, not with the accusation of impossibility.
PP 101.2 “The sins that called for vengeance upon the antediluvian world exist today.”
ST, January 3, 1878 par. 8 “The men of Noah's time, in their philosophy and worldly wisdom, thought
God could not destroy the world with a flood, for the waters of the ocean could not be sufficient for this.
.... God had his weapons concealed in the bowels of the earth to compass her destruction. And when the
great men and the wise men had reasoned before the world of the impossibility of its destruction by water,
and the fears of the people were quieted, and all regarded Noah's prophecy as the veriest delusion, and
looked upon Noah as a crazy fanatic, God's time had come. .... the Lawgiver is greater than the laws of
nature. The hand of omnipotence is at no loss for ways and means to accomplish his purposes. He
could reach into the bowels of the earth and call forth his weapons, waters there concealed, to aid in the
destruction of the corrupt inhabitants of the old world. But let us all bear in mind that those who perished
in that awful judgment had an offer of escape.”
If Satan brought the destruction on the earth why was he terrified for his life when he was compelled to
be amid the warring elements? Who compelled him to be there if he was in control?
Pharaoh
Exo 7:5 “And the Egyptians shall know that I am the LORD, when I stretch forth mine hand upon
Egypt, and bring out the children of Israel from among them.”
1SP 183.2 “The Lord showed them by his servant Moses that the Maker of the heavens and the earth
is the living and all-powerful God, above all gods; that his strength is mightier than the strongest--that
Omnipotence could bring forth his people with a high hand and with an outstretched arm. The signs and
miracles performed in the presence of Pharaoh were not given for his benefit alone, ....”
1SP 184.3 “Said Moses and Aaron to Pharaoh, That Jehovah whom thou pretendest not to know, will
convince thee that he is more powerful than all gods. They informed him that God would yet perform
greater wonders, which would leave him without excuse, and which would be perpetual monuments
of his providence and power in behalf of Israel.”
Therefore all of the miracles in the form of destructive plagues performed against the Egyptian’s gods
were from Jehovah.
Exo 7:17 “Thus saith the LORD, In this thou shalt know that I am the LORD: behold, I will smite with
the rod that is in mine hand upon the waters which are in the river, and they shall be turned to blood.”
Exo 8:2 And if thou refuse to let them go, behold, I will smite all thy borders with frogs:”
Exo 11:1 “And the LORD said unto Moses, Yet will I bring one plague more upon Pharaoh, and upon
Egypt; afterwards he will let you go hence: when he shall let you go, he shall surely thrust you out hence
altogether.”
Exo 11:4 “And Moses said, Thus saith the LORD, About midnight will I go out into the midst of
Egypt:”
Exo 11:5 “And all the firstborn in the land of Egypt shall die,”
Exo 12:23 “For the LORD will pass through to smite the Egyptians; and when he seeth the blood
upon the lintel, and on the two side posts, the LORD will pass over the door, and will not suffer the
destroyer to come in unto your houses to smite you.”
Exo 12:29 “And it came to pass, that at midnight the LORD smote all the firstborn in the land of
Egypt,”
1SP 199.1 “.... the angel of God would be passing through the land of Egypt .... For I will pass through
the land of Egypt this night, and will smite all the first-born in the land of Egypt, both man and beast; and
against all the gods of Egypt I will execute judgment: I am the Lord. .... and when I see the blood, I will
pass over you, and the plague shall not be upon you to destroy you, when I smite the land of Egypt.”
Exo 10:20, Exo 14:8, 17 “But the LORD hardened Pharaoh's heart”....
Did God harden his heart? No he did not & we know the explanation of that.
1Sa 6:6 “Wherefore then do ye harden your hearts, as the Egyptians and Pharaoh hardened their hearts?”
There is no such explanation for ‘God destroys no man’, just plain evidence that he DOES do the
destroying after we have made the choice to be destroyed by Him.
Neh 9:11 “And thou didst divide the sea before them, so that they went through the midst of the sea
on the dry land; and their persecutors thou threwest into the deeps, as a stone into the mighty waters.”
Exo 14:28 “And the waters returned, and covered the chariots, and the horsemen, and all the host of
Pharaoh that came into the sea after them; there remained not so much as one of them.”
Exo 15:4 “Pharaoh's chariots and his host hath he cast into the sea: his chosen captains also are drowned
in the Red sea.”
Exo 15:19 “For the horse of Pharaoh went in with his chariots and with his horsemen into the sea, and
the LORD brought again the waters of the sea upon them;”
Who opened the water & who ‘brought again’ the water to drown the Egyptians? The LORD did.
RH, February 17, 1891 par. 1 & 2 “When Pharaoh hardened his heart on the first exhibition of God's
power, he made himself more capable of a second rejection of God's power. Pride and stubbornness held
him in bondage, and hindered him from acknowledging the warnings of God. It was contrary to the nature
of Pharaoh to change after once having given expression to his purpose not to believe.
“What Pharaoh has done, will be done again and again by men until the close of probation. God destroys
no man; but when a man stifles conviction, when he turns from evidence, he is sowing unbelief, and will
reap as he has sown. As it was with Pharaoh, so it will be with him; when clearer light shines upon the
truth, he will meet it with increased resistance, and the work of hardening the heart will go on with each
rejection of the increasing light of heaven. In simplicity and truth we would speak to the impenitent in
regard to the way in which men destroy their own souls. You are not to say that God is to blame, that he
has made a decree against you. No, he is not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to the
knowledge of the truth, and to the haven of eternal bliss. No soul is ever finally deserted of God, given up
to his own ways, so long as there is any hope of his salvation. .... The responsibility rests upon the sinner.
By resisting the Spirit of God today, he prepares the way for a second resistance of light when it comes
with mightier power; and thus he will pass from one stage of indifference to another, until, at last, the light
will fail to impress him, and he will cease to respond in any measure to the Spirit of God.”
This is the explanation of both Pharaoh & of all the impenitent. Now we know Pharaoh did not kill himself,
“the LORD had done” it. (Exo 18:8)
YI, November 30, 1893 par. 6 “Pharaoh had his sowing time, and he also had his reaping time. He
sowed resistance and obstinacy. He sowed the seed in the soil. .... His independent resistance produced a
harvest after its kind, and all the evidences that God gave to set his steps in the right path, only served to
fasten him in unbelief and rebellion. He went on from one degree of resistance and wilful disobedience of
God to another degree, just as the ungodly of all ages have done, and will do to the close of time, until he
finally looked upon the dead face of his first-born. The character revealed by Pharaoh is similar to that of
all the impenitent. God destroys no man; but after a time the wicked are given up to the destruction they
have wrought for themselves.”
COL 84.3 & 4 “Every seed sown produces a harvest of its kind. So it is in human life. We all need to
sow the seeds of compassion, sympathy, and love; for we shall reap what we sow. Every characteristic of
selfishness, self-love, self-esteem, every act of self-indulgence, will bring forth a like harvest. He who lives
for self is sowing to the flesh, and of the flesh he will reap corruption.
“God destroys no man. Everyone who is destroyed will have destroyed himself. Everyone who stifles the
admonitions of conscience is sowing the seeds of unbelief, and these will produce a sure harvest. By
rejecting the first warning from God, Pharaoh of old sowed the seeds of obstinacy, and he reaped
obstinacy. God did not compel him to disbelieve. The seed of unbelief which he sowed produced a harvest
of its kind. Thus his resistance continued, until he looked upon his devastated land, upon the cold, dead
form of his first-born, and the first-born of all in his house and of all the families in his kingdom, until the
waters of the sea closed over his horses and his chariots and his men of war. His history is a fearful
illustration of the truth of the words that "whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap." Galatians
6:7. Did men but realize this, they would be careful what seed they sow.”
Exo 18:8 “And Moses told his father in law all that the LORD had done unto Pharaoh....”
Deu 6:22 “And the LORD shewed signs and wonders, great and sore, upon Egypt, upon Pharaoh, and
upon all his household, before our eyes:”
Deu 11:3 “And his miracles, and his acts, which he did in the midst of Egypt unto Pharaoh”
Psa 135:6 “Whatsoever the LORD pleased, that did he in heaven, and in earth, in the seas, and all deep
places.”
Psa 135:7 “He causeth the vapours to ascend from the ends of the earth; he maketh lightnings for the
rain; he bringeth the wind out of his treasuries.”
Psa 135:8 “Who smote the firstborn of Egypt, both of man and beast.”
Psa 135:9 “Who sent tokens and wonders into the midst of thee, O Egypt, upon Pharaoh, and upon all
his servants. “
Psa 135:10 “Who smote great nations, and slew mighty kings;”
Jer 46:25 “The LORD of hosts, the God of Israel, saith; Behold, I will punish the multitude of No,
and Pharaoh, and Egypt, with their gods, and their kings; even Pharaoh, and all them that trust in him:”
PP360 “… Aaron’s mistaken indulgence of his sons prepared them to become the subjects of the divine
judgments.”
4aSG 125.1 “God did not excuse them because the brain was confused. Fire from his presence
destroyed them in their sin.”
Num:16:46 “… for there is wrath gone out from the Lord; the plague is begun.”
Num:16:49 “Now they that died in the plague were fourteen thousand and seven hundred…”
4SP 270.2 “.... all but Lot with his wife and two daughters were consumed by the fire sent down from
heaven.”
YI, August 3, 1893 par. 4 “.... but the same day that Lot went out of Sodom it rained fire and
brimstone from heaven, and destroyed them all.”
The fire & brimstone came out of heaven. Did Satan go up to heaven to send it down?
Elijah’s Experience
2 Kings 1:10 “…If I be a man of God, then let fire come down from heaven, and consume thee and
thy fifty…”
The Amalekites
PP 628.2 “But while inflicting judgment, God remembered mercy [to the Kenites]. The Amalekites
were to be destroyed, ....”
The Understanding of the Prophets.
Job 31:23 “For destruction from God was a terror to me…”
Isa. 13:9 “Behold, the day of the Lord cometh, cruel both with wrath and fierce anger, to lay the land
desolate: and he shall destroy the sinners thereof out of it.”
Jer. 13:14 “… I will not pity, nor spare, nor have mercy, but destroy them.”
Joel 1:15 “Alas for the day! for the day of the Lord is at hand, and as a destruction from the Almighty
shall it come.”
ExV 33.1 in September, 1850, “I was shown that the seven last plagues will be poured out after Jesus
leaves the Sanctuary. Said the angel, It is the wrath of God and the Lamb that causes the destruction or
death of the wicked.”
It is Their wrath, not Their brightness, that causes the death of the wicked.
Rev 15:5 “And after that I looked, and, behold, the temple of the tabernacle of the testimony in
heaven was opened:”
Rev 15:6 “And the seven angels came out of the temple, having the seven plagues, ....”
These were Heavenly angels unless Satan’s angel is permitted to go to the temple & get them!
Heb 2:14 “Forasmuch then as the children are partakers of flesh and blood, he also himself likewise
took part of the same; that through death he might destroy him that had the power of death, that is, the
devil;”
ST, February 21, 1878 par. 13 “Christ in his sermon on the Mount represented the lives of Christians
as the salt of the earth. Without the preserving, sanctifying influence of the Christian's words and actions
the world would be altogether corrupt, and fit for the immediate sentence of justice that was pronounced
upon the fruitless fig tree.”
ST, February 15, 1899 par. 14 “The explanation of this strange act of Christ in the cursing of the fig
tree was to stand as a living, warning appeal to all Christian churches. The blighted tree was to repeat its
lesson in every age to the close of earth's history. .... The Lord and all heaven behold the fruitless fig tree.
They see men trampling upon the law of Jehovah, making the covenant between Him and His
commandment-keeping people a thing of naught. But to the people who trample upon that law which God
has ordained, Christ says, as He said to the Jewish nation, “Thou hast destroyed thyself.””
Did the Jewish nation destroy themselves? No. Likewise, the Fig tree did not destroy itself, Christ’s
“strange act” did it.
DA 380.2 “Their [the disciples’] thoughts were stormy and unreasonable, and the Lord gave them
something else to afflict their souls and occupy their minds. God often does this when men create
burdens and troubles for themselves. . . .“
DA 380.3 “A violent tempest had been stealing upon them, and they were unprepared for it. It was a
sudden contrast, for the day had been perfect; and when the gale struck them, they were afraid. They forgot
their disaffection, their unbelief, their impatience. Everyone worked to keep the boat from sinking.
God brought this violent tempest upon them, not Satan, so this shows that He does control the elements.
RH, February 26, 1914 par. 4 “The time is right upon us when there will be sorrow in the world that
no human balm can heal. The Spirit of God is being withdrawn from the world. Disasters by sea and land
follow one another in quick succession. How frequently we hear of earthquakes and tornadoes, of
destruction by fire and flood, with great loss of life and property. Apparently these calamities are
capricious outbreaks of seemingly disorganized, unregulated forces, but in them God's purpose may be
read. They are one of the means by which he seeks to arouse men and women to a sense of their
danger.”
He is not seeking men with the help of Satan. He is never in co-partnership with him.
PP 107.4 “Everywhere were strewn the dead bodies of men and beasts. The Lord would not permit these
to remain to decompose and pollute the air, therefore HE MADE OF THE EARTH A VAST BURIAL
GROUND. A violent wind which was caused to blow for the purpose of drying up the waters, moved
them with great force, in some instances even carrying away the tops of the mountains and heaping up
trees, rocks, and earth above the bodies of the dead. By the same means the silver and gold, the choice
wood and precious stones, which had enriched and adorned the world before the Flood, and which the
inhabitants had idolized, were concealed from the sight and search of men, the violent action of the waters
piling earth and rocks upon these treasures, and in some cases even forming mountains above them.”
PP 108.2 “At this time immense forests were buried. These have since been changed to coal, forming
the extensive coal beds that now exist, and also yielding large quantities of oil. The coal and oil frequently
ignite and burn beneath the surface of the earth. Thus rocks are heated, limestone is burned, and iron
ore melted. The action of the water upon the lime adds fury to the intense heat, and causes
earthquakes, volcanoes, and fiery issues. As the fire and water come in contact with ledges of rock
and ore, there are heavy explosions underground, which sound like muffled thunder. The air is hot and
suffocating. Volcanic eruptions follow; and these often failing to give sufficient vent to the heated
elements, the earth itself is convulsed, the ground heaves and swells like the waves of the sea, great
fissures appear, and sometimes cities, villages, and burning mountains are swallowed up. These
wonderful manifestations will be more and more frequent and terrible just before the second coming of
Christ and the end of the world, as signs of its speedy destruction.”
PP 109.1 “THE DEPTHS OF THE EARTH ARE THE LORD'S ARSENAL, whence were drawn
weapons to be employed in the destruction of the old world. Waters gushing from the earth united
with the waters from heaven to accomplish the work of desolation. Since the Flood, fire as well as
water has been GOD'S AGENT TO DESTROY very wicked cities. These judgments are SENT that
those who lightly regard God's law and trample upon His authority may be led to tremble before His power
and to confess His just sovereignty. As men have beheld burning mountains pouring forth fire and flames
and torrents of melted ore, drying up rivers, overwhelming populous cities, and everywhere spreading ruin
and desolation, the stoutest heart has been filled with terror and infidels and blasphemers have been
constrained to acknowledge the infinite power of God.”
17MR 58.1; Letter 131, 1897 “The material world is under God's control. The laws of nature are obeyed
by nature. Everything speaks and acts the will of the Creator. Cloud and sunshine, dew and rain,
wind and storm, all are under the supervision of God, and yield implicit obedience to His command.”
SpTEd 58.2 “The same creative energy that brought the world into existence is still exerted in
upholding the universe and continuing the operations of nature.”
PP 109.2 “"The Lord hath His way in the whirlwind and in the storm, and the clouds are the dust
of His feet. He rebuketh the sea, and maketh it dry, and drieth up all the rivers." Nahum 1:3, 4.”
Rev 16:21 “And there fell upon men a great hail out of heaven, every stone about the weight of a
talent.”
ST, January 25, 1910 par. 18 “When will men learn that God is God, not man, and that He does not
change?”
The Crucifixion
2T 211.1 “Nature sympathized with the suffering of its Author. The heaving earth, the rent rocks,
proclaimed that it was the Son of God who died. There was a mighty earthquake. The veil of the Temple
was rent in twain. Terror seized the executioners and spectators as they beheld the sun veiled in darkness,
and felt the earth shake beneath them, and saw and heard the rending of the rocks.”
Satan would NOT be making this proclamation in sympathy, so God DOES control nature.
3SP 165.3 “In silence the beholders watched for the end of the fearful scene. The sun shone forth; but
the cross was still enveloped in darkness. Priests and rulers looked toward Jerusalem; and lo, the dense
cloud had settled over the city and the plains of Judea. The Sun of Righteousness, the Light of the world,
was withdrawing His beams from the once favored city of Jerusalem. The fierce lightnings of God's
wrath were directed against the fated city.”
3SP 166.1 “Again darkness settled upon the earth, and a hoarse rumbling, like heavy thunder,
was heard. There was a violent earthquake. The people were shaken together in heaps. The wildest
confusion and consternation ensued. In the surrounding mountains, rocks were rent asunder, and went
crashing down into the plains. Sepulchers were broken open, and the dead were cast out of their
tombs. Creation seemed to be shivering to atoms. Priests, rulers, soldiers, executioners, and people,
mute with terror, lay prostrate upon the ground.”
12MR 416.2 “.... But the earth trembles and quakes; for the Lord Himself draws near. With a rending
noise the inner veil of the temple is torn from top to bottom by an unseen hand.”
Manuscript 140, 1903 “It was as if nature itself were protesting against the murder of the Son of God.”
Broadside2, January 31, 1849 par. 2 “Then Jesus will step out from between the Father and man, and
God will keep silent no longer; but pour out his wrath on those who have rejected his truth. .... He will
stand up, put on the garments of vengeance, and then the seven last plagues will be poured out.”
RH, November 1, 1850 par. 4 “.... September, 1850, I was shown that the seven last plagues will be
poured out after Jesus leaves the sanctuary. Said the angel, "It is the wrath of God and the Lamb that
causes the destruction or death of the wicked."
EW 64.2 “I was then made capable of enduring the awful sight of the seven last plagues, the wrath
of God.”
TM 182.2 “The world is soon to be left by the angel of mercy, and the seven last plagues are to be
poured out. .... But God's patience and mercy will not always wait. Let not one soul think that he can hide
from God's wrath behind a lie, .... The bolts of God's wrath are soon to fall, and when He shall begin
to punish the transgressors, there will be no period of respite until the end. The storm of God's wrath
is gathering, and those only will stand who are sanctified through the truth in the love of God.”
RH, August 1, 1849 par. 10 “Satan was trying his every art to hold them where they were, until the
sealing was past, until the covering was drawn over God's people, and they left without a shelter from the
burning wrath of God, in the seven last plagues.”
5T 212.4 “Our own course of action will determine whether we shall receive the seal of the living God,
or be cut down by the destroying weapons. Already a few drops of God's wrath have fallen upon the earth;
but when the seven last plagues shall be poured out without mixture into the cup of His indignation,
then it will be forever too late to repent, and find shelter. No atoning blood will then wash away the stains
of sin.”
10MR 240, 241 (1899) “The Lord God of Israel is to execute judgment upon the gods of this world
as upon the gods of Egypt. With fire and flood, plagues and earthquakes, He will spoil the whole land.
Then His redeemed people will exalt His name and make it glorious in the earth. Shall not those who are
living in the last remnant of this earth's history become intelligent in regard to God's lessons?”
The Judgement.
Isa. 26:21 “For, behold, the LORD cometh out of his place to punish the inhabitants of the earth for
their iniquity…”
When “the Lord cometh out of His place to punish,” His glory is revealed “in flaming fire taking
vengeance” on the wicked. There is no room here for the fallacious reasoning that because in this instance
it is the glory of God’s presence that destroys, it is not God who destroys! It is not Satan, that is for sure.
Rev. 6:16, 17 “And said to the mountains and rocks, Fall on us, and hide us from the face of him that
sitteth on the throne, and from the wrath of the Lamb: For the great day of his wrath is come; and who
shall be able to stand?”
PP102 “…Before the Lawgiver shall come to punish the disobedient, transgressors are warned to
repent…”
RH, October 25, 1892 par. 3 “If any man defile the temple of God, him shall God destroy; for the
temple of God is holy, which temple ye are.”
EW 221.1 “Those who do not choose to accept of the salvation so dearly purchased, must be
punished. But I saw that God would not shut them up in hell to endure endless misery, neither will
He take them to heaven; for to bring them into the company of the pure and holy would make them
exceedingly miserable. But He will destroy them utterly and cause them to be as if they had not been;
then His justice will be satisfied. He formed man out of the dust of the earth, and the disobedient and
unholy will be consumed by fire and return to dust again. I saw that the benevolence and compassion
of God in this matter should lead all to admire His character and to adore His holy name. After the
wicked are destroyed from off the earth, all the heavenly host will say, "Amen!"”
YI, August 11, 1898 par. 10 “If Thy justice is satisfied, "I will that they also, whom thou hast given
me, be with me where I am" (John 17:24). And the voice of God is heard; justice is satisfied; Satan is
vanquished. .... (Hebrews 1:6).”
RH, June 19, 1900 par. 4 “There is a power that can destroy both soul and body. "I will forewarn
you whom ye shall fear," Christ said. "Fear him, which after he hath killed hath power to cast into
hell; yea, I say unto you, Fear him." The Ruler of the universe bears long with the perversity of men;
but he keeps a record of their works, and in proportion as they have caused pain to others, they will
themselves be punished. .... “and she shall be utterly burned with fire: for strong is the Lord God who
judgeth her."”
RH, May 24, 1898 par. 14 “And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul:
but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.”
1SG 118.1 “Beings whom God created have chosen to rebel against his government; but I saw that
God did not shut them up in hell to endure endless misery. He could not take them to heaven; .... God
will not take them to heaven,.... He will destroy them utterly, and cause them to be as though they
had not been, and then his justice will be satisfied. He formed man out of the dust of the earth, and
the disobedient and unholy will be consumed by fire, and return to dust again. I saw that the
benevolence and compassion of God in this, should lead all to admire his character, and to adore
him; ....”
ST, January 25, 1910 par. 16 “To our merciful God the act of punishment is a strange act. Yet He
will "by no means clear the guilty. By terrible things in righteousness He will vindicate the authority of
His downtrodden law. The very fact of His reluctance to execute justice, testifies to the enormity of the
sins that call forth His judgments, and to the severity of the retribution awaiting the transgressor.”
ST, August 24, 1882 par. 15, 16, 17, & 20 “The Lord does not delight in vengeance, though he
executes judgment upon the transgressors of his law. He is forced to do this, to preserve the
inhabitants of the earth from utter depravity and ruin. In order to save some, he must cut off those who
have become hardened in sin. Says the prophet Isaiah: “For the LORD shall rise up as in mount
Perazim, he shall be wroth as in the valley of Gibeon, that he may do his work, his strange work; and
bring to pass his act, his strange act.” Isa 28:21. The work of wrath and destruction is indeed a
strange, unwelcome work for Him who is infinite in love.
“Again, the divine message comes to Ezekiel: "As I live, saith the Lord God, I have no pleasure in the
death of the wicked; but that the wicked turn from his way and live." The very fact of God's
unwillingness to punish sinners shows the enormity of the sins that call forth his judgments. ....
“The records of sacred history declare, that while God is a God of justice, strict to mark iniquity, and
strong to punish the sinner, he is ALSO a God of truth, compassion, and abundant mercy. While he
visits judgments upon the transgressors of his law and the enemies of his people, he will protect
those who respect his statutes and show kindness to his chosen.
“....though the Kenites were still friendly to Israel, and acknowledged the living God as the ruler of the
earth, their religion had become corrupted with idolatry. After this time they degenerated more and
more into heathenism, and their influence became a snare to the Hebrews. Hence they were finally
visited with divine judgments.”
RH, June 19, 1900 par. 6 “The Lord will avenge his children. In proportion as men have carried out
the spirit and purposes of Satan in causing pain to human beings, so will they suffer. Thus will they
perish who have done all in their power to compel men to transgress the law .... John writes; "and he
that sat upon him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he doth judge and make war. ....
And out of his mouth goeth a sharp sword, that with it he should smite the nations: and he shall rule
them with a rod of iron: and he treadeth the wine-press of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God.
And he hath on his vesture and on his thigh a name written, King of Kings, and Lord of Lords."”
Isa 61:2 “To proclaim the acceptable year of the LORD, and the day of vengeance of our God.”
Jer 11:11 “Therefore thus saith the LORD, Behold, I will bring evil upon them, which they shall
not be able to escape; and though they shall cry unto me, I will not hearken unto them.”
Jer 13:14 “And I will dash them one against another, even the fathers and the sons together, saith
the LORD: I will not pity, nor spare, nor have mercy, but destroy them.”
Jer 14:12 “When they fast, I will not hear their cry; and when they offer burnt offering and an
oblation, I will not accept them: but I will consume them by the sword, and by the famine, and by the
pestilence.”
Eze 7:4 “And mine eye shall not spare thee, neither will I have pity: but I will recompense thy
ways upon thee.”
Nah 1:2 “God is jealous, and the LORD revengeth; the LORD revengeth, and is furious; the
LORD will take vengeance on his adversaries, and he reserveth wrath for his enemies.”
Nah 1:3 “The LORD is slow to anger, and great in power, and will not at all acquit the wicked: the
LORD hath his way in the whirlwind and in the storm, and the clouds are the dust of his feet.”
Nah 1:6 “Who can stand before his indignation? and who can abide in the fierceness of his anger?
his fury is poured out like fire, and the rocks are thrown down by him.”
Nah 1:8 “But with an overrunning flood he will make an utter end of the place thereof, ....”
Nah 1:9 “What do ye imagine against the LORD? he will make an utter end: ....”
Nah 1:10 “.... , they shall be devoured as stubble fully dry.”
Mal 3:17 “And they shall be mine, saith the LORD of hosts, in that day when I make up my jewels;
and I will spare them, as a man spareth his own son that serveth him.”
If he chooses to only spare His jewels, then He is making a choice NOT to spare others.
RH, March 9, 1886 par. 22 “.... until Protestantism shall give the hand of fellowship to the Roman
power. Then there will be a law against the Sabbath of God's creation, and then it is that God "will do
a strange work in the earth." He has borne long with the perversity of the race; he has tried to win
them to himself. But the time will come when they shall have filled their measure of iniquity; and then
it is that God will work.”
4T 461.3 “When we study the divine character in the light of the cross we see mercy, tenderness,
and forgiveness blended with equity and justice.”
6T 12.1 “By beholding the goodness, the mercy, the justice, and the love of God revealed in the
church, the world is to have a representation of His character.”
Letter 18e, 1890, 3BC 1149.8 “Justice has a twin sister that should ever stand by her side, which is
Mercy and Love.”
5T 559.1 “Justice has a twin sister, Love. These should stand side by side.”
RH, December 20, 1892 par. 10 “Voluntarily our divine substitute bared his soul to the sword of
justice, ....”
HM, January 1, 1892 par. 14 “While the servant acknowledged the justice of the sentence against
him, he begged for mercy.”
RH, September 21, 1886 par. 5 “Justice demanded the sufferings of a man.”
SpTA01b 20.2 “As the bow in the cloud is formed by the union of the sunlight and the shower, so
the rainbow encircling the throne represents the combined power of mercy and justice. It is not
justice alone that is to be maintained, for this would eclipse the glory of the rainbow of promise above
the throne; men could see only the penalty of the law. Were there no justice, no penalty, there would
be no stability to the government of God. It is the mingling of judgment and mercy that makes
salvation full and complete. It is the BLENDING OF THE TWO that leads us, as we view the world's
Redeemer and the law of Jehovah, to exclaim, "Thy gentleness hath made me great." We know that the
gospel is a perfect and complete system, .... Mercy invites us to enter through the gates into the city of
God, and justice is sacrificed [satisfied] to accord to every obedient soul full privileges as a member of
the royal family, ....”
Jon 2:9 “But I will sacrifice unto thee with the voice of thanksgiving; I will pay that that I have
vowed. Salvation is of the LORD.”
ST, February 10, 1876 par. 1 “In my [Ellen White pre conversion] mind the justice of God eclipsed
his mercy and love.”
HM, November 1, 1897 par. 9 “God justly condemns all who will not receive and believe in Christ
as their personal Saviour.”
RH, June 25, 1908 par. 7 “At the cross, JUSTICE and mercy met together, and righteousness and
peace kissed each other. ....”
PP 361.3 “.... that they might possess firmness of principle, and wisdom to administer justice and
to show mercy.”
Rev. 14:9, 10 “The same shall drink of the wine of the wrath of God.”
Mat 25:41 “Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into
everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels: ....”
Who prepared this fire? Certainly NOT the devil or his angels as they are the ones it is prepared FOR.
Rev. 20:9 “…fire came down FROM GOD out of heaven, and devoured them.”
2Pe 2:4 “For if God spared not the angels that sinned, but cast them down to hell, and delivered
them into chains of darkness, to be reserved unto judgment;”
Who is going to destroy the evil angels and Satan if not God? Is Satan going to live forever? NO! Is he
going to destroy himself and his angels? NO!
TM132 “…What a reckoning day that will be! It is the great day of God’s vengeance. Christ does
not then stand at Pilate’s bar. Pilate and Herod, and all that mocked scourged, rejected and crucified
Him will then understand what it means to feel the wrath of the Lamb…”
1SG 217.1 “Satan rushes into the midst, and tries to stir up the multitude to action. But fire from
God out of heaven is rained upon them, and the great men, and the mighty men, and the noble, and
poor and miserable men, are all consumed together. I saw that some were quickly destroyed, while
others suffered longer. They were punished according to the deeds done in the body. Some were
many days consuming, and just as long as there was a portion of them unconsumed, all the sense of
suffering was there. Said the angel, The worm of life shall not die; their fire shall not be quenched as
long as there is the least particle for it to prey upon.”
1SG 218.1 “But Satan and his angels suffered long. Satan not only bore the weight and punishment
of his sins, but the sins of all the redeemed host had been placed upon him; and he must also suffer for
the ruin of the souls which he had caused. Then I saw that Satan, and all the wicked host, were
consumed, and the justice of God was satisfied; and all the angelic host, and all the redeemed saints,
with a loud voice said, Amen!”
ST, June 28, 1905 par. 4 "Does God turn from justice in showing mercy to the sinner?--No; God
can never dishonor His law by suffering it to be transgressed with impunity.”
Jas 4:12 “There is one lawgiver, who is ABLE TO SAVE AND TO DESTROY: who art thou
that judgest another?”
4T 259.2 “In conversation with others dwell upon the mercy, goodness, and love of God instead of
upon His strict judgment and justice.”
Australasian Record, Dec. 16, 1912 “I am instructed that when the Lord’s time comes, should no
change have taken place in the hearts of proud, ambitious human beings, men will find that the hand
that had been strong to save will be strong to destroy. No earthly power can stay the hand of God.”
9T 13.2 “.... when the Lord's time comes, should no change have taken place in the hearts of proud,
ambitious human beings, men will find that the hand that had been strong to save will be strong to
destroy. No earthly power can stay the hand of God .... when God's appointed time comes to send
retribution on men for their disregard of His law ....”
21MR 194.3 “The transgression of God's law in a single instance, in the smallest particular, is sin.
And the non-execution of the penalty of that sin would be a crime in the divine administration.
God is a judge, the avenger of justice, which is the habitation and foundation of His throne. He
cannot dispense with His law, He cannot do away with its smallest item in order to meet and pardon
sin. The rectitude and justice and moral excellence of the law must be maintained and vindicated
before the heavenly universe and the worlds unfallen.”
Rev. 22:12, 13 “And, behold, I come quickly; and my reward is with me, to give every man
according as his work shall be. I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end, the first and the
last.”
The inhabitants of the earth, the human race, choose to be destroyed by their choices in life BUT it is
God who finally sends down His fire from Heaven to devour them & therefore is their ultimate
destroyer.
Zephaniah 2:1 – 3 “Gather yourselves together, yea, gather together, O nation not desired; before the
decree bring forth, before the day pass as the chaff, before the fierce anger of the LORD come upon
you, before the day of the LORD ’S anger come upon you. Seek ye the LORD , all ye meek of the earth,
which have wrought his judgment; seek righteousness, seek meekness: it may be ye shall be hid in the
day of the LORD ’S anger.”
The wicked are not at this time dead because of His brightness as they are close enough to see nail
prints, the spear wound as well as both Christ & the Saints on the walls of the city. This then means
that Christ has CHOSEN not to have them destroyed until other things, like the arraying of the wicked
under the leadership of Satan to ‘take the Holy City’ by force, have been fulfilled, after which time He
then CHOOSES to destroy them. Fire then was breathed on them from Heaven, not from Christ in the
city, & they were consumed by the fire NOT by the brightness of either the Father or Christ.
ExV 32.5; RH, April 1, 1850 par. 13 “Fire will come down from God out of heaven and devour
them--burn them up root and branch. Satan is the root, and his children are the branches. The same
fire that will devour the wicked will purify the earth.”
EW 221.1 “.... He will destroy them utterly and cause them to be as if they had not been; .... the
disobedient and unholy will be consumed by fire and return to dust again.”
1SG 217.1 “.... fire from God out of heaven is rained upon them, and the great men, and mighty
men, the noble, the poor and miserable, are all consumed together. .... Some were many days
consuming, ....”
1SG 218.2 “I then looked and saw the fire which had consumed the wicked, burning up the
rubbish and purifying the earth.”
TM 160.1 “Christ cannot share a divided heart; sin and Jesus are never in copartnership.”
For Satan to be the destroyer of souls he MUST be working in copartnership with God.
The conclusion has been arrived at by a careful study of the Word and the Spirit of Prophecy. The
weight of evidence (see 3T 258) undeniably proves the purveyors of this idea that ‘God does not
destroy’, to be in serious error. It is one of the winds of false doctrine. This study has applied the proper
test to this doctrine, and it has been shown to have no Inspired support. We must not, then, give an ear
to it .
