APPLICATION PROCEDURE OF ROCKHARD 90


ROCKHARD 90 is a kind of wear resistant Castable . Its application temperature limit is 350C. It is a three
pack material system containing a powder, steel fiber and a special liquid additive.

PREPARATION OF STEEL SURFACE TO BE CAST WITH ROCKHARD-90.

The Steel surface to be lined with Rockhard-90 material must be cleaned with wire brush to remove the
rust, paints etc.
MS anchors are welded as per the drawing. The anchors must have pitch of 150mm and placed in zigzag
fashion. MS Strip of width same as the Rockhard lining to be made are tack welded, to make an area of 1
meter by 1 meter, over the steel surface, to be coated, to ensure uniform lining thickness is maintained.
Expandable sheet of required quality or 2mm thick Expandable wire mesh of 1” square mesh is fixed on
the anchors by tack welding.

PREPARATION OF THE ROCKHARD 90 MIX.

The 100 kg capacity paddle mixer or mortar mixer is employed for mixing the Rockhard 90 powder with
water. The water used must be of drinking quality and cold at below 25C. The required water is first
mixed with the 300 cc of the binder liquid. The mixer used must be clean.

Put 100 Kg of Rockhard 90 Powder in a mixer. Mix for 3 minutes. Add 3.2 Kg of M.S fiber slowly while the
mixer is running and complete the addition within 4 minutes continue the mixing for another 3 minutes.
Add the liquid additive 300ml in 4 liters of water and add slowly for 3 minutes, while mixer is on. Add
another 5.5-6.5 liters of water for another 5 minutes. Discharge the material and cast the material
within 15 minutes.

APPLICATION OF ROCKHARD MIX.

The different tools and tackles shown in the next page must be kept ready. The mix must not be made
more than 100 kg at a time. It is to be put on the wire mesh fixed on anchors and must be pressed with
trowel to make proper consolidation. There should not be any air gap in the trowelled material. The
detail methods are shown in next two pages.

CURING

The cast surface is covered with wet jute bags and water is sprinkled to keep it wet for 72 hours.
