Installing Wintac 2016 on a Workstation

*Workstation Install - New User or Upgrade: Use these instructions when installing Wintac 2016 on a
computer that does not host your Wintac 2016 data file.

Follow the steps below to install Wintac on the Workstation:

1) Shut down all running programs including virus protection programs.

2) Insert the Wintac disc into your DVD drive. The Wintac setup program should automatically launch.
If so, skip to step 4. If it does not automatically launch, continue to step 3.

3) CLICK into Start menu and then click “Run”. Type: D:\SETUP.EXE (where "D" is the drive letter of the
DVD drive). CLICK “OK”.

4) Wintac Setup Program


a) "Installing Wintac" section, CLICK "Next" or “Install”.
b) "Select Installation Type for Wintac" section, CLICK "Workstation" and then CLICK "Next".
c) "Select the install location of the Wintac Frontend database" section, leave as is, CLICK "Next".
d) "Ready to Install" section, CLICK "Install".
e) Let the setup go through and complete the Wintac installation. CLICK “Finish”.

Setting Your Default Company


1) Right click on the Wintac Icon on the desktop and select “Run as Administrator”.

2) Select “Activate Wintac”.

3) Select “Activate Wintac Online”, if connected to the internet, otherwise select “Activate
Manually”. (If you need to do a manual activation, please call 1-800-724-7899 and make sure
you have the two user codes available.)

4) Enter in Activation information. (You or an employee of your company should have received an
email with this information. If you are not able to find it, please call 1-800-724-7899.)

5) Error 76 prompts and says the data file doesn’t exist. CLICK “Yes” to create the new company
file. CLICK “No” to select your existing data file.

6) Under the drop down menu for Server: select “Get SQL Servers…” and select your SQL server
instance.

7) UNCHECK “User Windows Authentication” and enter in SQL Credentials that were previously
created.

8) Click on “Select Company”.

9) Browse to the database location file on the network. Once located, select file and CLICK “Open”.

10) Click on “Open” in the Database Server Links.

11) Click OK or Close to exit out of the Welcoming window if prompted.

12) In System Options, CLICK “Set Default Company”.


a) CLICK on drop down menu for Server and select “Get SQL Servers…”
b) Select the SQL instance that was previously created
c) Uncheck the box for “Use Windows Authentication”.
d) Enter in SQL credentials that were previously created.
e) Click on “Select Company” and select the company data file that previously selected.
f) Click on Open.
g) Click on Save.
