1. TRADITIONAL METHOD.
(HOT MIX MATERIAL)
2. NEW METHOD (CURRENT METHOD).
(CATIONIC BITUMEN EMULSION – MS )
3. SMART METHOD (ADVANCE METHOD).
(RIPSTAR BT-9)
1. TRADITIONAL METHOD.
(HOT MIX MATERIAL)
-ADVANTAGES
-NONE
DISADVANTAGES
- Not worthy in rainy season due to poor
bonding.
- Uneven coating of bitumen on metal.
- Manual errors like poor compaction.
- Compaction of the material for small
potholes is critical.
- Not eco friendly.
- Serious injuries may happen at the time
of application.
- Adulteration in the quantity of Bitumen.
2. NEW METHOD (CURRENT METHOD).
(CATIONIC BITUMEN EMULSION – MS )
- MOSTLY USED IN MANY METRO CITIES.
- ADVANTAGES:-
- - ECO FRIENDLY.
- -LESS HAZARDS THAN HOT MIX MATERIAL.
- - EASY TO HANDLE.
DISADVANTAGES
- -Improper selection of emulsion grade may affect the quality of
maintenance work.
- Pretreatment of repairing areas is required i.e. tack coat.
- - Manual errors like poor coating, poor compaction.
- - Variations of emulsion quantity for each batch for site mixed
material.
- - Maintaining the single aggregate source & formulation of mix
design accordingly is a hectic job.
- - Risk of contamination of emulsion.
- - Risk of spillage & leakage of emulsion during handling &
transportation.
3. SMART METHOD.
(RIPSTAR BT-9)
ADVANTAGES
- Eco Friendly.
- Ready to use.
- Very economical.
- Excellent bonding with dry as well as wet surface.
- Easy compaction of critical potholes.
- Very fast setting, hence reducing the traffic hold up
time.

- Highly resistant to stripping by water, offer high skid
resistance.
- No pretreatment of repair areas is required i.e. cutting
out, use of tack coat.
- Offer no sticking/picking-up of material by vehicle
tyres.
- Offer increased service life of the repaired potholes.
- Useful for Utility cuts, & Ruttings.
PROPERTIES
APPLICATION PROCEDURE:
Surface preparation:
- Preparation prior to repair is minimal.
- Remove standing water/loose debris/dust.
- However, where this proved impossible, repairs have
always remained sustainable.
Placing:
- Shake well the bag of RIPSTAR BT9 before use.
- Pour RIPSTAR BT9 directly from the bag into the pothole
and overfill by 10mm.
- For deep potholes, first compact approximately 10mm
RIPSTAR BT9 across bottom of pothole, then fill
remaining cavity with adequate size of aggregate well
compacted and then top with 25mm of RIPSTAR BT9 as
a final course.
COVERAGE & PACKING
Coverage
A 30 kg bag of RIPSTAR BT9 yields 15 liters of
mortar. This is sufficient for 0.9 m2 at an average
thickness of 25 mm.
