TOPIC: THESIS STATEMENT, TOPIC SENTENCE, AND SUPPORTING DETAILS

LET’S PRACTICE!

I.DIRECTION: Write a thesis statement for each set of


topic.
1. Topic Sentence: Jogging prevents heart disease.
Jogging prevents some forms of cancer.
Jogging helps treat diabetes.
Thesis Statement:
Jogging is beneficial because it prevents and treat
diseases.
2. Topic Sentence: Automated election reduces costs.
It is faster.
Digital archiving of results is also
achieved.
Thesis Statement:
Automated election is advantageous because it is
faster, cost efficient and achieved digital archiving of
results.
3. Topic Sentence: Internet pornography is flourishing.
Internet becomes a tool for violating
intellectual property rights.
It is being used to bully other people.
Thesis Statement: The disadvantage of internet is that it
is used for pornography, violating intellectual property
rights and bullying.
II.DIRECTION: Write three supporting details (major
details) for each topic sentence.

1.Topic Sentence: Music helps us while studying.

Supporting Detail 1:
Music makes us comfortable when we are studying.

Supporting Detail 2:
The good and right music helps us think more and
internalize our lessons.

Supporting Detail 3:
Music makes us feel better which could help our
brain function well in doing stuffs in school.

2.Topic Sentence: Lack of sleep has negative effects


on your appearance.

Supporting Detail 1:
Lack of sleep can make us look haggard and pale
which is not good in our physical appearance.

Supporting Detail 2:
Lack of sleep can cause stress and make our body
skinny.

Supporting Detail 3:
Lack of sleep increases acne, eye bags and make our
skin aged.

3.Topic Sentence: Smart phones are useful in our


studies.
Supporting Detail 1:
Smartphones has an internet access which we can use
in surfing and do research related to our studies.

Supporting Detail 2:
Smartphones are easy to use and handy that’s why we
can contact our teachers and classmates anytime if
there is any outputs or projects.

Supporting Detail 3:
Smartphones can be used to save our files or
powerpoints so that we can study on it.

III.DIRECTION: Write a question for each topic. Make


sure that the questions you formulate will require
three details/arguments in the answer. Then, answer
each question to come up with a thesis statement. From
the thesis statement you have formulated, write three
topic sentences.

1. FACEBOOK
Question: What are the impact of Facebook to us?
Thesis Statement:
Facebook may be useful and harmful to an individual.
Topic Sentence 1:
Facebook is used for communicating to the people that
may be far away from us.
Topic Sentence 2:
Facebook can make people addicted to it.
Topic Sentence 3:
Facebook is an online app which we can also use in
gathering information nationwide but it might be a
fake or accurate news.

2. ABSENTEEISM
Question: What are some reasons of Absenteeism?
Thesis Statement: Absenteeism are caused by bullying,
financial problem and illness.
Topic Sentence 1: A person who is always being bullied
in school commonly commits absence.
Topic Sentence 2: Financial problem may be one factor
why a student is absent.
Topic Sentence 3: An illness is also a reason why a
student will be absent in school.

PHILIPPINE ELECTIONS
Question: Shifting from manual to automated election
is better for the Philippines?
Thesis Statement: Shifting from manual to automated
election allows faster results, easier, and convenient
for the voters.
Topic Sentence 1: Automated election enables to get
faster results.
Topic Sentence 2: It is much easier.
Topic Sentence 3: It is convenient for the voters.
