Apprenticeship Program 2020 Guidelines

Track 1: UA&P Bar Notes

Description:

Complete and publish all the UA&P Bar Notes by August 2020. The final drafts
must be submitted for review and approval of the faculty supervisor by the end of the
Midyear Term. The drafts will serve as basis for the evaluation of the students’
performance.

Eligibility:

All students enrolled in the Apprenticeship Program may apply for this track.

Duties:

Students who will work on the UA&P Bar Notes under the Apprenticeship
Program will do the following:

1. Work with the UA&P Bar Preparations Commission under the supervision of
a faculty member and the apprenticeship coordinator;

2. Prepare a detailed outline of the bar notes to be approved by the faculty


supervisor;

3. Conduct research, digest cases, compile bar questions and answers, prepare
tables, graphs, illustrations, based on the 2020 Bar Exam Syllabus;

4. Write, revise, lay-out the bar notes according to the format determined by the
faculty supervisor and the UA&P Bar Preparations Commission;

5. Prepare a final draft for the review and approval by the faculty supervisor.

Procedure:

1. Fill out A-SA Form 1.

2. Send the following documents to the apprenticeship coordinator

b. Curriculum Vitae
c. Summary of Grades (indicate subjects with the highest grades and subjects
with failing grades)

3. Wait for the reply of the apprenticeship coordinator who will approve the
applications and assign students to a bar subject to work on.

Timeline:

120 hours;
26 working days (June 11-July 17);
Approximately 4 hours of work per day.

Week 1 (June 8- June 11)


- Orientation
- Approval of applications
- Students to be assigned to bar subjects
- Start of Apprenticeship

Week 2 (June 15- June 19)


- Draft and submit outline of bar notes
- Research and writing proper

Week 3 (June 22-June 26)


- Research and writing proper

Week 4 (June 29- July 3)


- Research and writing proper

Week 5 (July 6-July 10)


- Research and writing proper
- Submit First Draft (July 10, 2020)

Week 6 (July 13-July 17)


- Revise the draft
- Submit Final Draft (July 17, 2020)

Track 2: Research Assistant

Description:

Work as a research assistant under a designated faculty supervisor. The faculty


member will evaluate the students’ performance.

Eligibility:

Students who have completed Civil Procedure and Criminal Procedure may apply
for this track.

Duties:

Students who will work as research assistants will be do any of the following:

1. Conduct legal research;

2. Draft pleadings, letters, resolutions, contracts;

3. Proofread documents, manuscripts;

4. Coordinate with courts, offices, clients;

Procedure:

1. Fill out A-SA Form 1.

2. Send the following documents to the apprenticeship coordinator

Track 3: Law Firms/Government Offices

Description:

Work as a legal assistant under a designated supervising lawyer from a law firm
or government office. The supervising lawyer will evaluate the students’ performance.

Eligibility:

Students who have completed Civil Procedure and Criminal Procedure may apply
for this track.

Duties:

Students who will work in law firms or government offices will do any of the
following:

1. Conduct legal research;

2. Draft pleadings, letters, resolutions, contracts;

3. Proofread documents, manuscripts;

4. Coordinate with courts, offices, clients;

Procedure:

1. Fill out A-SA Form 1;

2. Send the following documents to the apprenticeship coordinator

Working Students

Description:

Students working in law firms, or those whose employments involve legal work,
may have their work hours credited as their apprenticeship. This is subject to the
approval by the apprenticeship coordinator and the Dean of the Institute of Law.

Procedure:

1. Fill out A-SA Form 1;

2. Prepare a letter of intent with a detailed description of the nature of work and
a profile of the law firm or office;

3. Send the accomplished A-SA Form 1, letter of intent, and the student’s
Curriculum Vitae to the apprenticeship coordinator ([Link]@[Link]) with
the following:

a. Contact details and profile of the immediate superior who must be a


lawyer;

b. Summary of Grades (indicate subjects with highest grades and subjects


with failing marks).

Disqualified Apprenticeship Partners/ Supervising Lawyers

The following shall be disqualified from being Apprenticeship Partners and/or


acting as the Supervising Lawyer:

1. A professional partnership where any of the partners is, or a lawyer who is,
related wishing the fourth (4th) civil degree of consanguinity or affinity to the
applicant;
2. Offices or agencies where the head of the office or agency or anyone exercising
similar functions is related, within fourth (4th) civil degree of consanguinity or
affinity, to the applicant.

Required Apprenticeship Forms

1. Student’s Application Form (A-SA Form 1)

- This form is to be submitted to the Apprenticeship Coordinator during the


apprenticeship application.

2. Supervising Lawyer’s Acceptance Form (A-SLA Form 2)

- This form is to be submitted to the Supervising Lawyer during the


apprenticeship applications;

- Once signed by the Supervising Lawyer, the student is to submit it to the Dean
of the Institute of Law, furnishing a copy to the Apprenticeship Coordinator.

3. Supervising Lawyer’s Evaluation Form (A-SLE Form 3)

- This form is to be submitted to the Supervising Lawyer at the start of the


apprenticeship;

- Once accomplished, the student is to submit it to the Apprenticeship


Coordinator at the end of the apprenticeship.

4. Certificate of Completion (A-CC Form 4)

- This form is to be submitted to the Supervising Lawyer at the start of the


apprenticeship;

- Once accomplished, the student is to submit it to the Apprenticeship


Coordinator at the end of the apprenticeship.

5. Work Report (A-WR Form 5)

- This form is to be accomplished by the student to indicate the tasks done and
the hours worked for each;

- At the end of the apprenticeship, the student is to submit it to the supervising


lawyer for approval;

- Once accomplished, the student is to submit it to the Apprenticeship


Coordinator.
