My Teaching Philosophy and Goals

Ruben Griego has always wanted to be a teacher since graduating high school 20 years ago. He is now pursuing his dream and going back to school to get a degree in education. During a field observation, he saw how one teacher was able to make a difference in students' lives by teaching not just lessons but life lessons as well. Griego believes that students hold our future and that as teachers, our role is to help students reach their fullest potential. He plans to implement teaching strategies tailored to individual students and create a safe, inclusive classroom where all students feel they can accomplish anything.

Philosophy of Education

I am choosing this profession because teaching has always been something that I have had a

desire to do. I graduated high school 20 years ago and I can honestly say that I have always

wanted to be a teacher. Life just didn’t go the way I had originally planned. Now the world has

stopped for lack of a better term I have gone back to school to do what I have always had a

calling for. I want to make a difference in this world, and I believe I can do so in the classroom. I

know what its like to be out in the world not just in the behind a desk and I believe I can show

my students that they have so much to offer. I feel like the last decade has really prepared me

for the classroom environment. In my job I am responsible to train my clients. Whenever there

is a new install, I have taken on the task of teaching our clients on how to use our systems. I do

this in a classroom setting. Usually teaching anywhere from 5-20 people at a time. During my

field observation I had a firsthand look at making a difference in students’ life. The teacher I was

assigned didn’t just to teach them the lesson of the day but life lessons as well. You could see

when he got through to them. It was like a light switch was turned on and their whole

demeanor changed.

I believe that our future is in the hands our students, and as a teacher it is our jobs to bring

out their fullest potential. With everything going on right now during this pandemic I see it

more than ever the importance of a good education and the impact that teachers have. As a
father of two I am getting firsthand experience of the trials and tribulations that both our

children and teachers are having to fight through to ensure that they are receiving the best

possible education in these trying times. It just shows the strength of character that our

teachers have and their willingness to go above and beyond to make sure their students have

every chance to succeed.

The strategy I will implement will be based on the students I am trying to teach. No two

students are the same so I cannot approach them as if they are. I need to make sure that as

I teacher I am meeting the needs of my students to ensure they are getting the most out of

each class. I need to be able to reach them in a language that they can understand. One that

invites them to the classroom setting and makes them want to participate. Now I know this

will not be applicable to every student. That does not mean I should not try though. I feel

there is no “right” answer to this. Rather I must do all I can to make them feel included and

to make sure the time spent in my classroom is beneficial to everyone who walks through

my door.

One of the characteristics that I will need is to see the good in all people. To not judge them

before I get to know them. Treat everyone as if they are the same and give everyone the same

chance. I want my students to walk into my classroom knowing they are safe and they are given

the feeling that they can accomplish anything they put their minds to. I will also need to

continue my education over the next year or so to obtain my bachelors degree and to go on for

any licensing that may be required by whatever state I end up in to become a teacher in.
