2nd Assignment - P41003

Domestic violence against women is a serious problem in India, with 1 in 3 women experiencing physical or sexual violence from an intimate partner. The Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act of 2005 legally recognized domestic violence and provided protections for victims. However, reports still show that over 30% of women experience spousal violence, with physical violence being most common. The COVID-19 pandemic has further exacerbated the issue, with a 50% rise in reported domestic violence cases due to economic insecurity and isolation during lockdowns. Addressing the root causes and providing medical, legal and psychological support services are important ways to help victims and curb this ongoing social issue.
